Default Spouse Approval Required

Seems like this would be a fun thread. Does your spouse approve of your car choice?

My wife was absolutely ticked I bought the Spyder before I sold my vintage land cruiser, which was the deal I had made with her. That is, until I started signing us up for some of the local tours. 17 yrs into marriage she’s suddenly interested in a car club and going on drives as long as they stop over in fabulous places for lunch! Mind you, I can’t drive the speeds I want when she’s in the car, but I love having her along finally.
She still gives me the stink eye a bit since the cruiser hasn’t even been listed, but she doesn’t mind the Porsche.

I'm blessed in that my wife supports my car obsession..

I had a silver '07 997S and I traded it for an black '07 997TT, she was confused.. "Why did you simply trade cars for a color change?
She climbed in and after a drive she understood why :-)

She comes along on tours and such and as long as she takes her Zofran and I get the cold air blowing, she can handle all the curves the car & I can give her..

She is one of the unique wives that encourages me to drive faster, not slower..

SWMBO has always cast a gimlet eye upon my car buying (and selling) insanities, with much grimacing on her part. BUT she has always been an enthusiastic supporter of the 987.2 Spyder, and before that of the S1 E-Type OTS (through 44 years of ownership). I received much flak for selling my first Spyder (I vaguely remember words like “idiot”). Sure enough, within a year I had bought my second Spyder, sight unseen, from even farther away, to resounding cheers. There is something about the Spyder that suspends all the usual laws of nature...

My wife likes the car and was always a fan of 911's. She comes on drives including club runs and has a decent time. Doesn't complain when the speeds get up there.

On the flip side she doesn't love the lowness, the relatively rough ride or the high road noise. She's not a fan at all of using the Cayman on road trips. She's more of a BMW gal and has made several mentions that I should trade the Cayman on an M2 CS.

While my wife is perfectly content to drive her Subaru Forester, she is an Indycar fan and so she understands my sports car draw.

My wife isn’t really into cars on her own but enjoys that I am ... quite the opposite of your situation she WON’T let me sell my Land Cruiser after I got my Spyder (despite now having 5 cars for two of us)

Fortunately my wife and her family are car people. She urges me to go to track days when it’s been too long (every few weeks) and is 100% on board with my tool purchases so long as I use them. Once Covid is over she’ll be attending the Porsche driving school to start tracking in the future. She even matches in her “Mamacan”.

I can't imagine making a $50k decision my wife was unhappy with.

A death match every time. A penchant for depreciating assets regardless of financial position can be a recipe for conflict when logic meets emotion.

Approval of the Boxster exceeds her approval of any of the M3 convertibles I owned. She claimed they were noisy (they were - the cowl shake was amazing) and uncomfortable (rather firm seats with a crown to them until they got broken in - the passenger seat never got broken in. The drivers seats broke in too much (sagged.)

Long time ago my wife made a deal with me. I can have cars I can afford and drive on the race tracks as long as I stay out of small airplanes and do not get a motorcycle.
I need a bigger garage....

My wife adores Rosie. She was dubious about the leather interior color from the online pics but once in our hands she was a super fan. Loves driving in it. And neither of us are spring chickens.

long term marriage, my spouse is mostly worried about how comfy the seats are, and doesn't like to ride along on track. She likes the Cayman seating, but didn't like my 04 Mustang GT convertible. Can never figure it out.

2005 - "Quit fooling around and buy the black Carrera before someone else does. You know you want it."

2016 - "You've been watching that Cayman for over a month. Don't whine if someone buys it before you do."

Not necessarily true if you know how and what to buy. I started buying “fun” cars 20 years ago and in that span I’m still ahead as long as I exclude insurance and gas. When a good buying opportunity presents itself I won’t shy away from it even if it means stretching financially for a short period of time and I did that a few times when I was younger and in all instances came out ahead, even during the recession.

Bottom line, pay attention to the market, know what you’re buying, take the time to get the car perfect and over the long haul it won’t cost you very much to enjoy this hobby. My wife will occasionally give me crap about a big maintenance bill but then I remind her that if she does the math my hobby has barely impacted our financials.
