Love hearing this! I got the same tune for my GTS and agree completely. In regards to the diverter valves, I'm personally debating on it but probably won't do it. The first few miles, Scott did mention that the car will be relearning and when pushing the car, the PSI would go up and down (like a wave almost). I read that a diverter valve would fix this. But after more driving, I notice that this wave sensation with the PSI has stopped.

I have a 2018 GTI and a 2.9 Cayman. The GTI, being turbocharged, has a lot more torque down low. The Cayman doesn’t do much below 4K RPM. In terms of power, that’s the biggest difference and really the only thing better about the GTI. Above 4K the Cayman is great. I’m also at altitude where turbo cars are able to compensate for the thinner air a bit better.

On a canyon road, I’m taking the Cayman every time. When Im on a twisty road and able to stay in the power band, it feels like a really fast car and I never wish for more. The GTI is a great daily though.

Edit: I guess someone bumped this old thread...

Hey thanks for bumping the thread.

I've actually been pretty busy since my first post. I got engaged and we bought a house!

I'm still daily driving my 2016 GTI (98k miles), and I'm actually about to pay it off (September). I've driven an 08' 987 and a 14' 981 and my sentiments are the same as what some of you had shared. The 981 is clearly the nicer place to spend time, but it felt large and more grand touring like. I'd basically assumed 718s would be out of my budget, but it seems some early 718 bases may be around the 50k mark as well. I was ideally wanting to stay around $45k, and I believe the dream car is definitely a 987.2 S (in Guards Red, but may have to be open minded on color), but I'm open to trying a base. I see there was an engine size change in the base. I'm assuming the 2.9 came with the .2 refresh?

Congrats! Those are some big life changing decisions right there.

Yes, the 987.2 is the only base with a 2.9 engine (the others being 2.7 or 2.0).

Thanks! My new soon to be wife is pretty on board with me getting a Cayman too, so thats win-win. My plan is to daily my GTI for a few more years while its paid for, and hopefully pickup a Cayman during that period.

Hey good evening gang...

I realize the 987.2s are definitely better cars, I feel like I'm seeing a lot of lower mileage 987s with Tiptronics that are interesting.

Any opinions on this?

Or would this 2.9 PDK be the better car? I'm finding 2.9 PDKs for under $30k. Really starting to come around to that. I feel like I want the S, but I'm not quite ready for mid $40k for a weekend car yet. What's interesting is the premium I'm seeing on Guards Red cars. Base Caymans in Red for basically S money.
