I have a 2011 Boxster Spyder with a smart key, here is what happened (to the best of my recollection): A) unlocked the car with the smart key button actuator, B) opened the door, entered the car, took a seat, opened the glove compartment by hand to get driving gloves, C) recalled that I left a bottle of water in the house, placed the keys with the gloves on the center console, exited the car closed the door, D) as I reentered the house I heard a bleep/buzz sound, in the house grabbed the bottle of water, returned to the car, E) the car was locked, the top was in place I could not open the door, the windows were barely cracked open, the keys were in the car! F) went back in the house to get the spare key, opened the car.
The smart key has a lot of interesting features, I subsequently re-read the owners manual and could not find this "feature" I did see where they say if you unlock the car with the smart key and Do Not Open the door for 20-100 seconds (apparently a programmable number) the car will automatically relock
Comments?
Yes, you have to put the key in the ignition within a certain number of seconds, otherwise the alarm and relock are triggered.
I always put the key in the ignition accordingly, regardless of my intent to start or not...
