Default How old is your battery

I have an 09 Boxster with a BOSCH battery dated 44th week of 2011. It was replaced just before I purchased the car. I've always put the car on a maintainer in the winter and long absences in the summer. Car is low mileage but do 4-5 DEs a year. I've never gotten any indication of a weak battery, but obviously gotten my moneys worth from this battery.

I had the original battery in my 2012 CR explode after 4.5 years. I have reason to believe the Porsche branded charger I was using malfunctioned and overcharged the battery,, but I will never know with 100% certainty. I just had the Interstate in my 2012 Quattroporte fail after 3.5 years, also routinely on a battery maintainer. Some batteries seem to last for a long, long time, others seem to fail early. I've made the decision to swap out after 4-5 years even if seemingly behaving well.

Just replaced the factory battery after 4.7 years in the Spyder. Old one was still starting the car but I was getting a tiny bit of a slow crank at times so I just canned it.

Battery longevity correlates with many factors .... Where the car is kept / climate , temp , Type of car (some are harder than others on batteries) frequency of use and how maintained when not in use (battery tender) and just plain luck. Just replaced the Original battery on my 955 Cayenne !! Mfg 10/04 !! so go figure ..

If you get 5 to 7 yrs on a battery that was a good go ..... I know older batteries had better builds and thicker plates when compared to newer batteries and maybe thus the less reliable & shorter lives on newer batteries. I do like the AMG batteries though ...excellent cranking power and so far no failures on the two i own.

The only thing I do not like about amg batteries it the weight, a H7 in my car would be a additional 10lbs, I stayed with the lead acid, I might go Lithium on the next one depending on prices, kind of funny that the Lithium expensive battery is about the same price as OEM Porsche replacement.

The factory original battery is still in my 50K mile 2014 Cayman Base. It's driven 5-6 days a week, always garaged but has never been on a maintainer. If I knew it would die in my garage, I'd drive it til it died just to see how long it will last. Instead, I'll probably change it out before the weather gets hot again.

Check out Antigravity lithium batteries with remote restart function. My battery is fine but the substantial weight savings along with the peace of mind of not needing to pull a fuse to open the frunk to jumpstart has me seriously thinking about spending $$$$ on this upgrade very soon.
