Carnewall/Cantrell Exhaust mod: I have this on my '14 Cayman S.
If anything, I will say that this exhaust mod is not enough. It is apparently about the same as the Porsche PSE. It's not loud enough!
Here is what they do: They take the mufflers off of a 981 and then they chop off the inleading section. A 981's muffler has a pipe welded to it that connects to the headers and cats. Cantrell Motors cuts off the pipe, and then using small cutting torches, they remove a circular section of the pipe inside the muffler. Then they weld the original exhaust pipe from the headers back in place. To make it strong, Cantrell welds into the inleading section a deliberately cut section.
DON'T try doing this yourself on your $40k+ car. Come on it is CHEESY if you try it yourself~! PAY this company to do it for you, is is only $600! We need to support vendors who do this work on these cars.
I have no affiliation with Carnewal in Belgium or Cantrell in Washington state.
Thanks for posting this. Its almost like a gundo hack? If there is an external pipe added, I'm glad I didn't go ahead with it as it could fail my local visual check.
Hmmm... my buddy said there are no welds showing on his, but I guess there must be. Anyway, I was thinking that the same effect could be achieved by simply sticking a big (1.5") drill bit down the small hole from the tailpipe/crossover end and drill out that same section of pipe. There'd be no visual evidence.
