So back to my Spyder, I had the "transmission overheating error" and we replaced the temp sensor around 83.5k. Then a year later around 85k I had the same error again. Are we thinking that the sensor should be replaced again? I know dealer is saying the next step is replace the unit, but maybe it's worth a shot to replace the sensor again? Appreciate all the help and insight everyone is providing.

It's certainly worth a shot. Replacing the whole unit is the path of least resistance and most profitable solution for the dealer. So I vote for replacing the sensor.

I know my suggestion will sound crazy but personally I would wholesale replace most, if not all the sensors that commonly fail. I would also have the valve body and remaining components inspected very closely for any signs of wear and replace. A large part of the expense for your repair will be the labor so the WYAT approach makes sense. Get the transmission baselined so you can enjoy it for another 80k miles. If you decide to sell later that labor will be seen as a benefit to the next owner as well.

Well it's a sad day folks but I have decided to part ways with the Spyder and it's off to a new home. Absolutely loved the car since new as many of you know, but for now it's time to move on. Hopefully one day I can find another to enjoy some seat time in.

We can only hope that some transmission shop will take on the "rebuilding" of a PDK....
At this point Porsche Corporate has a good idea of what goes wrong with these transmissions, having had so many returned to them...will they EVER admit what the problem is, and propose a "fix", or is this another IMS mess..

So then what is the estimated life of the disposable PDK transmission?

Which would be considered more reliable PDK or Tip? It seems the Tip is already the most economical to service.

No one knows. We haven't heard of any PDK's wearing out. And it's not disposable - making it apparent you haven't read this thread or the linked threads on servicing a PDK.
No one knows. There have been only a few PDK problems reported - most with cars used for track use.

I almost bought that car. I even flew up from so Cal to NorCal to see it. Just couldn't part with the $$ given the PDK issue and the horrible cosmetic condition it was in at the time. Sounds like you got a deal?
