Default Cleaning recommendation Hardbacks

someone I know (name withheld to avoid embarrassment) decided to slather sunscreen on prior to exiting my 2011 Boxster Spyder, a big mess ensued (on many fronts), subsequently all smudges were remediated (seats, glovebox, door panel) except the side panel of the hardback on the passenger side seat (see Picture), attempts with Dawn soap and water, sponged on wiped dry were unsuccessful. Any suggestions on removal, thank you in advance.

I have had good luck with a miracle eraser on plastic, works great on black plastic where you enter the car and people drag their feet, give it a try, maybe it will also remove sunscreen.

I wouldn’t use the magic eraser, it is abrasive. I would try a blend of isopropyl and water 60/40 in a small spot that’s not visible to make sure it won’t remove the paint on the hardbacks. If the cloth comes back clean I would give that a shot. Quick detail spray would be a less aggressive alternative.

If the isopropyl doesn’t remove it then the sunscreen has likely damaged the surface of the paint which is unfortunately more common than you would think. Sunscreen also damages the black painted surfaces and rubber on the center consoles and window switches if it’s left on too long.

I didn’t know either, I learned the hard way when cleaning one of the surfaces in the house that was left with a dull finish.

thanks Rennlisters, here is an update, used Meguires Quick Detailer, some improvement in sunscreen mess but curious black smudge marks have appeared, views change based on lighting angles
