Default Fans running constantly

Hi Guys

Working on a 987 3.2 with cooling fans running constantly. When you start the car they're off, and they cut in after 20 seconds or so and keep running. Also temp gauge not working.

Have changed the fan control module, and that made no difference. Any suggestions please!

Thanks

The thermostat may have gone bad.

Thanks for the reply.

Which thermostat are you referring to?

Temp sender most likely causing the ECU to not know the temp.

But like the person above me posted, the sensor is more likely the culprit, unless your car is running hot, in which case it may be a bad thermostat.

Hi Guys

We've tried the engine temperature sensor and it made no difference.

The fact that the fans don't come on until 30 seconds or so after startup would suggest that it's not a faulty solenoid either. I would suggest if it were the fans would run immediately. Would you agree?
If so I'm stumped as to what to try next.

It wouldn't be the engine coolant thermostat either. If it was stuck shut it would take time for the fans to work, and if stuck open it would take even longer.

Your input is gratefully received guys.

I meant relay not solenoid.

"It's a not a bug, it's a feature."

Does the fan run until your battery drains out?

Fan on my car turns on after the car shut off also, for cooling the hot engine bay. A turbo timer performs similar function.

No. They stop when you turn the ignition off.

Assume you are talking about the front two cooling fans and not the engine compartment fan. See

Still getting nowhere with this guys but thanks for all your efforts. We're going to have to bite the bullet and book the car in to a Porsche specialist and hope it's not a fortune.

Do you have a Durametric or know someone who does?

It would help to know what the ECU is seeing in terms of temp.

Even a basic OBD like the KIWI should give you some temp info

Maybe there is a problem in the wiring as opposed to the sensor.
