is there a way to enhance the sound of a flat 6 engine w/o changing the unique sound?

So you want to change the sound, but you don't want to change the sound?

If I am understanding you, you just want more of the flat six sound? There is a way to do that, get 200 cell headers or race headers. It will make the same noise but louder and scream at the high RPMS

Check with Gert at Carnewal in Belgium. They have modified a stock muffler to give a more robust sound. (GT Exhaust)
Their US vendor in Cantrell Motor Sport. http://www.carnewal.com/products/987...man-R-mufflers

I had it done (987.2 spyder), but honestly is not as loud as I expected/wanted.
It seems that better results can be achieved on 987.1

Not a terrible job, I did headers in 2 hours or so on jack stands. No welding needed. You'll need either a tune or catted o2 sensors to avoid a check engine light if you care about that. Tune adds even more power.

any suggestions for racing headers? is it easy to install / uninstall headers like stock systems? no welding or anything necessary right? (for the 981s that is). im planning on taking it to the shop to have it done but just wanted to know how it gets installed.

thanks my friends.
Well, being that you're in Northern California, local tracks have decibel sound limits that must be adhered to. Many on Rennlist will lean toward aggressive mods for more sound, less exhaust restrictions, etc. Some have installed "creative" GPS devices to reduce decibels when passing the sound booth. Additionally, when its time for an emissions check, if the tech looks under the car and sees a cat not certified by CARB, its an automatic fail. In this case, reverting back to stock will be required. Thus, do homework before jumping into the pool of performance mods.

You are required to get a "Smog Certification" every two years before the the DMV will accept your vehicle license renewal. Some cars are required to visit a "Star (certified) Station for the test. This may require a "tailpipe reading" while cycling the engine thru a prescribed sequence. Some cars now only need an "OBD" readout to see if any issues have been flagged indicating a malfunction within the system that manages emissions. The tech at the smog station is "supposed to" do a visual inspection of the vehicle to see if anything has been changed from stock. This could include looking under the rear of he car.
Fabspeed is pleased to offer their "improved performance" exhaust systems but specifically state that their "cats" are not (CARB) certified in California and may affect registration renewal. Of course, if your car is only used on the track, and never on the street, that's another story.........

All I did was put race headers on the Spyder, problem solved.

That Glorious Noise!
