'11 Cayman S exhaust vs. "R" exhaust
Factory listed improvements for Cayman R performance upgrades included a different exhaust manifold/system. Curious as to interchangeability with S and any improvement in performance for S without aftermarket exhaust mods (and other aftermarket changes).

For the CaymanR, the tube between the manifold and the actual exhaust housing is enlarged from 48mm (like any other 987-2, incl Spyder) to 55mm. This results in a better performance and more sound.
The Factory Sport Exhaust retrofit kit also has the 48mm tubes.

The R catback is a direct bolt-on for 987.2 Cayman S and Base. You may feel a slight improvement in power, but since the cats are both in the headers (2 per side), replacing headers with aftermarket sport or cat-less will yield much more power and sound.

Wondering if my 987.2 black edition has the same exhaust as R. Mine does also have optional PSE.

Just speculating but -by reading their statement- it seems that if you have the PSE you get, automatically, the 48mm.
Do I remember wrong or the BE has the same hp of the spyder?

I read it again, and there is no clear answer. BE has 330 hp, same as the R.

PS: in Italy the BE had the same hp of the spyder, 10hp less than the R

I can confirm that the R exhaust sounds different from the regular exhaust I have on a 987.1 Boxster S. I don't have the PSE on my R but I don't miss it (I had a PSE on a 981 C GTS). The R exhaust is deeper and more metallic sounding than the 987.1. I suspect part of it may be that the R reportedly has a little less sound deadening in the firewall. It's IMO a great sounding exhaust on its own.

From another forum (hopefully it’s allowed, else I will try with some cut and paste, even if with the iPad is a pain):
