do the cigarette outlets in the 981 turn off for some reason? on about 10 different occasions I have been using my phone while plugged in with a fast charger andthe phone will NOT charge in my 981. I have tried different outlets, cigarette, center, footwell, box. it seems randomly the outlets just do not carry any power. and usually it's when my phone obviously needs a charge, like today, I was at 20 percent and needed GPS to get home. plug phone in and it just died within about `5minutes. very very frustrating. moved the plug aorund tootheroutlets and used second charger. nothing. then, went to destination (after getting lost) thanks to nogps. after 15 minutes, came back to car and started it up and now the phone takes a charge. very veryfrustrating.
Use the process of elimination starting with the cell phone -> cable -> USB power supply -> etc. I have found most of the problems with modern cells phones (e.g. iPhone) does pertain to the lack of durability with the powering of the unit (i.e. battery, cable, 12V adapters, etc.). The cable being top of the list. The copper lines inside of the cables are microscopic small and break easily.
2 different cables. Same results yesterday. Happened also when I picked the car up 2 years ago .had to use phone for GPS, different phone and cable, sometime es it would charge, and then for no reason, in 2 of the outlets all of a sudden it stopped charging . Car restart after fuel stop would charge again.
I thought that there was another posting about this happening but it was related to someone using the cigarette lighter to plug the battery maintainer in and that it would simply shut off and even though maintainer was plugged in car battery drained down and it was tied back to the cigarette lighter outlet/port effectively disabling itself...
