Default ??'s about 987 Fabspeed Supercup Race Exhaust

I recently had a used exhaust installed and am surprised at how loud the exhaust is, particularly between 2k and 2.75k RPMs.

Is this typical?
I understand that the exhaust is intended for Race/Performance. But even as a weekend car, I am concerned whether the exhaust is too loud.

Otherwise the exhaust looks sick and has increased the power of the car, particularly on the high RPM end.

It's typical. It has INSANELY loud drone from 2-3k RPM. I had mine on for about 200 miles before it was resold. Sounds great above 3k though.

Seems quite a few of them end up on the re-sale market. I guess Fabspeed could do a better job explaining that ideal application of this exhaust is the track.

If the product is marketed as a "racing" exhaust a good rule of thumb is to expect it to be raw, loud and drone prone.

100% agree, but seeing how most car manufacturers tout race-inspired engineering, people are fooled to believe anything race related is good for them.

people are fooled to believe anything race related is good for them. I would change that to people believe it will make their car faster. STP used to call themselves "the racer's edge", fabulous marketing without any reality behind it.

In the marketing world theres 'race' parts and RACE parts. This thing is definitely the latter.

Default 987 fabspeed supercup exhaust

I agree, from 1-3k there is crazy drone and it is rowdy. however, ohh sweet jesus it sounds pretty over 3k. I mean just beautiful

I'm running 82mm tb, comp plenum, long tube headers no cars, fab supercup, and a tune. also, oodles of suspension goodies.

I have this exhaust (be it on a 2.9 liter) on my Cayman. It was very drony at about 2.5k rpm for about 8k miles and then subsided a BUNCH. It is bliss beyond 3k rpm all the way up. It is far from obnoxious in my opinion and would only swap if I were given a Soul exhaust for free.

I have a 2010 Cayman S PDK with Fabspeed Catless race headers and a number of exhaust including the Supercup.

IMHO this configuration is intolerable on the street. The drone between 2K - 3K rpm is ridiculous.

You end up trying to drive around it but it's annoying because that range is cruising speed from like 75 - 95 mph.

On the track it's a lot of fun and sounds like a formula 1 car. The best is cracking off high rpm shifts. Intoxicating.

haha, yeah. I use this on the street here and there. It just is so much better than a CRV (for short trips). I have a spare exhaust, much quitter, but I have a diffuser on the rear and no tolerance for back pain the next day
DO you have a sound clip of your Cayman?
