Default Porsche camaraderie?

Today I'm driving home from work and a red 981 Spyder with a temp tag zooms by me in my new white on classic Spyder. No slow down to wave or nod, no nothin'. Mind you, this is a small city. We could very well be the only 2 981 Spyders in town. 911 owners almost always wave. That's all I have to say. This was disappointing.

It was gone a long time ago especially with new/first time Porsche owners. Best pass by this indian summer...off the east side of Independence Pass in Colorado in the Spyder and a couple in a 356 cab going the other way big waves/smiles. We were heading home from Aspen after seeing Joe Walsh at the Belly Up in Aspen, whole trip was just epic. BTW glad you got a Spyder!!

Thanks il pirata, yeah, found one equipped as desired at a dealer in Chicago. I love it, just need to get the little vibration issue ironed out.

I'm afraid it ain't like it was when I got my 914 45 years ago. Back then you'd flash lights at other Porsches... (of course back then many 911 drivers wouldn't acknowledge a 914).
Did get an enthusiastic wave from a 914 driver the other day when in the Spyder... was happy to wave back!
If u flashed at every P-car in Scottsdale you'd wear out your lights. And 80% or more would have no idea what you were doing.

I suspect it's the other way around. In my Boxster, I'll wave and get waves from other sports car drivers.

In the Cayenne... nothing from the "car" guys, even if I wave first.

You are all correct. When I had my '04 C4S, I would get flashed by virtually any Porsche driver who approached. Now, nothing - even when a 981 approaches me. Used to be the case with my early BMWs too, back in the day when actual enthusiasts drove them. Glad that's not the case anymore, since there are so many damn 3 and 5 series cars on the road, it would be like driving into a constant flashing strobe light. I prefer not to increase my risk of having a seizure.

I knew this when I ordered it... the spyder gets no more love from the 911 guys than the 914 did. There are many kinds of people in among Porsche owners. Some work on their cars, most do not, some buy because they love the engineering, most do not. For some, its a symbol, for others its just a car. I bought this car for me because its exactly what I spent most of my life turning my 914-6 GT conversion into. Its new and has no issues and is really a turn key monster that my wife and I can travel in at speed. The world will never understand me but some individuals' do. A friend of mine who gets it, looked at it and said, "I understand why you sold a car you spent 27 years on to get this one... This car is you." - I agree.

I usually give a subtle wave from the steering wheel to only certain Porsches and 75% of the time will get a wave back.

Let's be honest, a large percentage of the newer Porsches are purchased as a means of expressing status and they could care less about the cars capabilities and what sets the cars apart from others.

I had the fog lamps altered in my 914-6s so they would flash. This was because back then it was still a small fraternity with camaraderie. Today no way. Only like cars and old cars acknowledge each other.

In Ontario there are lots of Porsches and I [still] almost always give / get a wave from 911 / Cayman / Boxster owners - almost never from Cayenne or Macan of course.

Thank you for doing that for me in my 'Ravenna Green' 914!
