Trophy Performance in Vegas charges $99 for an oil change. Dealer is $279, same parts.

To make you feel good...It's less than half the price they charged for my Maserati.

Uh. . . no, that's our lowest basic service cost. Huh?

One said he would "work with me." Ended up being $239.

Strange how you can walk out feeling good about paying "only" $239 for an oil change
Which dealer charged $239 and did they reset the service light with the Durametric?

What a ripoff. Especially when it's such an easy job.

Agreed, I did my own change when I had a lift and it was actually very easy. Porsche dealers all claim that they do a multipoint inspection that consumes a great deal of time which is why they charge so much for labor. At one point when a dealer tried to charge $580 I was so pissed that I asked the dealer to email me a copy of their inspection list. After I carefully looked at it I sent a nasty email back saying half of the inspection doesn't apply (such as inspecting the top mechanism ), clearing drains on a car that doesn't sit outside etc and they should know better than to arbitrarily charge the same amount for every car regardless of what it needs. After that email they offered to perform the service at no charge (basically reset service light with durametric) but I was so mad that I wanted nothing to do with the dealer. This was in Kansas not SoCal. I need an oil change now and have no lift so I need to pick a dealer and pay the ridiculous fee.

The last time I visited a dealer for anything I was charged just shy of $100 for an oil change in my 944S.

That was in 1998.

By comparison this looks like a bargain.

I took my Spyder in to Porsche of Orlando for a 5000 mile oil change and paid $375. I'm in the wrong business.

Thanks for all the responses, I feel I got a reletivly average price. I can change the oil but not reset oil life. That's why I had the dealer do it.

For less than the cost of an oil change you can reset the service reminders yourself:

Also, if you are a PCA member and your local chapter does track days, they probably have tech inspections where the cars are examined on a lift. These can provide an opportunity to do an oil change if logistics allow.

How many quarts of oil is that?

My 914-6 GT took about 3.5 gallons and had drains at both ends of the car.

I thought with these being water cooled, they would certainly not hold 3.5 gallons of oil...

250 seems to be a good deal compared to the 400 dollar Range Rover oil change.

$220 at Porsche North Olmsted, tax included. I waited and the tech took me back while the car was on the lift, explaining it was important to let it drain for quite a while to get as much oil out as possible. He went over the bottom of the car with me, giving me hints on getting the filter housing off without getting oil spilled into the rails. I had no complaints and everyone couldn't have been nicer.
The local indie charges $100 for a synthetic change on our '08 A6 and forgot to reset the service light last time.

I had a Panamera S and they wanted (I think) $460 for an oil change. I did it myself. You have to let it drain for over an hour. I also had a bad USB port, and it took three tries with them ordering the wrong part over two weeks before they finally just took one out of another car on the lot.

Even DIY is pricey, as the super-thin extra-virgin premium synthetic oil isn't cheap, even with crude oil at $40/barrell. $100 barely buys the parts.

To be fair, how would they know that you never drive your car and it sits inside all of the time? On the other hand, I bet they never really check those drains on any car less than 5 years old.

That's not only a great price, but it's nice that they let you go back in the shop and get educated.

My dealer's mechanic was super-nice, explaining to me all of the "gotchas" with the oil change on my Panamera (it was a PITA) when I bought the filter for it, which also applied to the 991 (long drain interval) and I'll do the Boxster myself when it comes time, if for no other reason than to get more familiar with where the engine is...
