Nice Mike, thank you for sharing the pics. So which Spyders placed 1st and 2nd???

I love that 986 in the background that looks like the original show car, very cool!

Very observant! - yes, that 986 was one man's very interesting re-creation of the original concept car. It was previously featured in a Panorama story. There were two 987 Spyders and two 981 Spyders in the class - the two 981ers took 1st and 2nd (hrummphh). Lots of interesting Porsches to look at on the field. My favorite was an original 718 race car - center seat, no less - 1 of 6 built, if I remember right. Absolutely a stunner. Too many crowded around the 718 for a clean picture, but here is someone else's photo of another 1 of those 6 center-seaters:

This was the inaugural Werks Reunion at Amelia Island, and it was fabulous. It will now be an annual event here on the East Coast at Amelia - there's another one already established on the West Coast.

Werks at Amelia was almost as good as werks at laguna last year. Overall a great event, I would go again. Much much easier to get around than Pebble, much more approachable, just more "southern". The only complaint was the single food vendor was atrocious.. their food had undoubtedly been packed a week prior if not earlier, it was rotten.. like actually rotting veggies. Oh well..

I remember that 986 reproduction in Panorama, I wasn't sure if it was the real deal or the copy. Pretty cool either way.

Black 959....drool!!! Nice Calexico, thanks for the pics!

Mike if you want to get into concours more seriously and win let me know, I have judged and I have shown for 15 years and I know what judges are looking for. I have either tied or beaten new cars (literally) in the Ubergang class. Shoot me a PM.

When you get an invite to join a fellow Spyder owner for a spirited mid-week drive in the San Gabriel mountains north of Los Angeles, it doesn't take a lot of arm twisting. Work assignments get rearranged, meetings get postponed, and matters that were once thought urgent all of a sudden seem much less pressing!

140 mile drive. 5,000 feet of elevation change. Zero traffic (once we got into the hills), blue skies, and temps in the low 80s. The Spyders were in attack mode and I still can't wipe the grin off my face.

We hit some stop and go heading up from Orange County.

Crystal Lake.

Looking down over the valley we had just climbed.

Man... that looks like it was a fun drive! Glad you could peel away from work to enjoy it. Hope the nice weather returns here soon. The rain is getting old.

Also a great comparison of Rhodiun vs. GT silver, Black vs. Classic interior and Steel vs. PCCB brakes.

^^^^ Good eye on picking up the color difference! (Rhodium vs. GT) Wasn't sure if anyone would notice that.

Some more variations:

rear lenses
exhaust tips
Spyder script on side panels (Bob blacked his out and they look great)
headlight washers ;-)

Fantastic scenery! Like the blacked out Spyder label. Thinking of doing that to mine as nothing else on the car is chrome shiny...

Your pix put mine to shame!

(how'd you keep your wheels that clean on a ride that long where you were obviously USING the brakes???)

Are you kidding. These pictures really make the difference between the two silvers clear. Great pictures and thanks for posting.

Pics are outstanding...what did you use to black out the Spyder on the side wings?
