I believe it is up to the driver to keep the speed down with the top on - I am not aware of any sensors to trigger a limiter.

Looks, of course, is all subjective! But can we all agree that larger, taller & heavier is NOT the direction one goes for if what you are looking for is maneuverability & agility in a sportscar! It's the laws of Physics, no?

Don't agree it is the belt looking. I give that to the new 981. Best driving is another story. The Spyder is actually supposed to be electronically limited to less than 120 mph when the top is attached. There is also a statement in the owners manual about the car being unsafe with the top on above that speed. The problem isn't the top, it is that you have to run with it on. Without it, Spyder is good to 166 mph; plenty for the front straight at TWS.
I only had the roof on because it was raining. I normally track with the roof off.
981 is a looker, but the spyder still wins. My opinion is biased, of course, but those humps in the back just can't be beat.

That's one concern I have about the spyder. As a DD, if you drive around in the winter, it's very possible the top would be up some. I'm prone to unexpected fits of speed... when the mood strikes me. The other day on my commute to work, I hit a big traffic jam... accident! But when I got by it the freeway was nearly all clear, so I did 140 for the next few mi to my exit. I passed the ambulance at about 125 (he must have been doing 80+. I know I shouldn't, but some times the stars align. So the "Limit" of the roof is some concern. As for the track, 120-130 is probably all you will get out of the spyder anyway unless it is a really big track.

Porsche has become a land boat company! Between the Panamera, Cayenne and the Panamera Coupe (aka Carrera) I think they're making a good head start on going into the Cruise Ship buliding business.
The 981 front end reminiscent of the Ferrari Kahleefornia is clearly the best looking front end of any Porsche. The "phone it home" MR2'esque sides really should have been ditched in favor of something original and not just a Carrera GT rehash. It will never be a CGT so why even go there? Why not make something wholly its own?
I smell VW decision there.... The 981 rear Panamera take off will probably grow on most but its not as good as the front end. And well ripping out the entire interior from a Panamera to save costs on such an expensive car really shows what Porsche thinks about the direction of Sports cars. Something to be sold to Chinese billionaires, Hip Hop artists and the Celebrity House Wives of LA. Lightweight minimalism is no longer in their vocabulary. "here... have a bunch of interior stuff you don't want. Stop whining its good for you. And yes its insanely over-priced!! we're trying to make a living here...".
