Clearly form following function...but I would think something that more closely resembles the Spyder roofline would be a better solution. This looks like a bowling hat.

I was imagining a solid panel under the fabric (like the front section of the 987 folding top) that extends to the roll bars, while retaining the butresses. This would still allow access to the trunk. Then either retain the existing rear window section, or incorporate a rigid section there that either detaches, or collapses onto the solid panel in order to stow it all in the trunk.

Why would you need a hard top? I was driving on Highway 5 in torrential downpour, in traffic with big-rigs kicking up massive spray, at an average of 85-90mph, with only the soft top. I had no issues with water getting in.

I'm surprised they made this. With so few Spyders out there and even fewer that are driven in inclement weather.
