There's a lot of difference between ceramic brakes and ceramic pads. Unless you have a lot of money to burn, you might want to assess your braking needs. Few people will need more than the best iron disks and good pads even for track.days. I have stock disks and Hawk performance ceramics pads. They are great on the street, produce zero dust, but are not recommended for HPDEs or track days.

I wish they were 8k... rotors alone are 22k

Much more than 8k to retrofit unless you get lucky and fine some used ones. You need new calipers not just rotors. It would be a truly horrendous financial decision unless you have a money tree out back.

I put F/R Akebono pads on my '13 X3 3.5i. They were a couple of hundred dollars, but my BMW dealer paid for the pads and the install, since the replacement OEM pads they installed were causing an incredible amount of brake dust. Interesting since the original OEM pads were clean and left little dust. The new OEMs are likely a softer composite which caused the increased brake dust. The Akebonos are completely dust free, have great feel, and are overall terrific pads. Are they available F/R for the 981??

If only. Full conversion over $30k new, though there are options to source somewhat cheaper from time to time. Still, way more than as a new option. I looked into converting my Spyder, but put it off for now.

Given their value as parts I'm surprised we don't see guys selling off their CCB's before they trade their cars in. Seems like an easy $5K at least to be had after selling the CCB's and installing iron all the way around. Calipers are the same, right, except for the color?

Burning Brakes
Well, I run stock on my '11 Cayman S (PDK) and do a few track days. Former owner did mostly street and on my first "heavy" applications on the track, I could feel the brakes getting "bedded in" and they grab much better now. Plus, the quick downshifting of the PDK helps too. PCCB will throw you through the windshield and most who track don't want them due to $$$$ replacement. For street, they will last forever............ IMHO.
