993 Owner Adopts Cayman R
Hi:
I usually spend all my time hanging in the 993 forum, but now I can officially join you all here.
I bought an R in Florida last Friday and drove it home straight to Chicago.
Life is good!
I hope to get to know you all. I am a Porsche lifer now.
Take care,
Michael

Welcome aboard!
Your car looks awesome. I recently purchased a 2006 Cayman S with 23k miles on it and I have been working to semi-convert mine to an R. I just put in factory "R" struts & springs and tonight I am installing an IPD Plenum upgrade (good for 15-20 hp). Within the next couple of months I will switch from the 19" Carrera Sport Classic wheels to the Cayman R wheels like you have. My car is the same color as yours and I think silver looks great in the R package.
As for air cooled, I love my '74 911. It's been a great car and still gets my hear pumping. It's more of a challenge to drive which is one reason I have so much fun driving it. I've added independent throttle bodies and engine management so it's much more reliable and smooth running than it used to be (not to mention much faster).

Thanks for all the responses!
I has been interesting driving both cars back to back this week plus driving my friend's 997.1.
I will take more photos and post initial reactions in the next few days. Two nights ago my friend came over and we took a photo or two to compare body styles of the 997 to the 987. Very interesting.

964 Jubi and Cayman R here... nothing alike, and nice combo.
Very different cars, but both are fun.
While I'm not sure how the 993 forum is, I do spend more time in the 964 forum than here... but that's simply because I don't need as much info for a Cayman as a 964. Turn the key and go, take to dealer or mech if no go, simpler/cheaper to diagnose and prices for everything is not too bad... the 964 is a different animal in that regard.
Enjoy in good health.

Congrats Michael!
Add me to the list of rear engine air cooled/ mid engine water cooled owners. They are entirely different to drive and equally fun. As noted, the R Is perfect out of the box and also very reliable so there’s much less time spent investigating mods and solving issues. Instead spend your time maintaining it cosmetically and with proper maintenance and it will reward you with a great driving experience for years.

I'm also in the club with a 96 C4S and a 987 Spyder. I've taken both to the track and there is a HUGE difference on how they drive. The 993 has upgraded shocks and springs but otherwise stock. The Spyder is completely stock. The Spyder will run circles around the 993 without even trying. It feels like you are a super hero when driving the Spyder. The 993 is certainly fun to drive fast, but its much easier to go fast in the Spyder.

Hey XLF! Welcome to the club and super nice Cayman R. As you are seeing, a bunch of us are A/C guys and Mid-engine guys. They make a great pair. And yes - the newer mid-engine platform will drive circles around the 993 but there is still something magical about the 993! Congrats and welcome!

HUGE praise coming from 993 guys. As a Cayman owner myself I am impressed by these words.
