Convertible top protectant
I am looking to put a top protectant on my 981 boxster. I just got a can of the Porsche top protectant it seems like a can of hairspray if you ask me. Has the same exact smell as other things such as grout sealer and hairspray.
Any recomendations?

The Porsche product is rebranded Ragg Topp from Wolfstein. Good stuff.

I use the Ragg Topp products. Its my understand that the Haartz company is the supplier for cloth tops for every major manufacturer. They specifically recommend the Ragg Topp product line for car of their tops. I used it on my previous 2003 Cobra with the fabric top and it looked brand new apart from the minute folding lines you get from putting the top up and down. Never had any issues so I just continue to use it with my Boxster.

Yeah typically I use one of those super thin disposable plastic drops cloths for panting to stop over spray. One can will do multiple coats. How long it lasts really depends on just how much you use. I don't go crazy with it because the boxster spends a lot of time indoors so I don't have to apply as much. Here is one of the best videos I found on how to use the products.

One can is plenty. Apply 3-4 light coats. About 30 minutes apart.
Let cure 1-2 days before exposure to sun and elements.
Repeat every other year.

In the video they say the overspray can be cleaned with a microfiber towel. That’s the part I am most concerned about. It seems like taping everything off would take a long time but according to the video not necessary.

I’ve used it for years on my Alfa Spider. The overspray cleans up easily: no need to mask. Just wipe it off before it dries and you’ll be fine.

This product lasted a year beading better than my paint, and coming up to 2 years with it still working, but fading in effectiveness on mine:

From UK, so try and find a more appropriate US or local site to purchase if you can. A full guide to apply it is here:

Please don't get any on your windows, rubber seals or paint. Mask it off properly and you're all good.

I've used RaggTopp on my Audi TT in the past, and think it's a great product. I did tape off the entire car so as not to get the overspray on the glass or paint finish. Otherwise use it according to directions - excellent results.

You guys can mask the car when using Raggtopp if you like, but you're really wasting your time. It's not like spray paint or anything: it comes right off of paint or glass. Spray it on your house window or something and you'll see it just wipes off.
If you use the can right you won't have much overspray anyway.

I used the Porsche stuff from the dealer at first. Full masking exercise and pretty strong fumes.
Since, found and been using RaggTop for over a year. Easy to use, easy to clean up, working very nicely for me. No more strong fumes either.
Occasional vacuuming, more mostly using a lint roller to remove seeds and fuzzy stuff.
I treat about every 3-4 months, year-round daily driver with original ‘05 top. Happy with this product.
