Sold my 996 GT3 to get the 987 Spyder. Love to have kept it as well if i could , but apart from the Mezger missing , the Spyder is better for me in all other respects , plus i love topless options. 95% road driving these days.

P.s. This Spyder has to stay...
I really enjoy my 987.3 Spyder and truly miss my 6GT3. Nothing yet I’ve driven tops the 6/3 for feel and raw experience imho. But head room was insufficient for me even without a helmet. I think if the 6/3 originally came with round headlights they would be going for significantly more than they do now.

Check the sight-lines on this shot, with the front splitter, the side body pieces and the rear wing. I think the headlights actually in this case work really well...

^ Zeus, that's a beauty! Just like mine. You will love it, then love it even more the longer you own it.

I agree! Question: do you find the Boxster different enough than the 6/3? I'm slightly concerned that Spyder may be too close. That being said, I did find driving the spyder home to be more "civilized" than the 6/3...

P.s. and not to purposefully highjack this thread BUT perhaps some alternative chatter would help us all bide the time better until the 982 Spyder is actually released!

I owned a 987 Boxster S, I race a 986 Spec Boxster, and I've also driven all Boxster iterations. Boxster is definitely different enough for me from the 996 GT3, maybe just a little less so in its Spyder iterations. The GT3 shakes up and wakes up all your senses in a "make your hands sweat" kind of way. The Boxster is a good wine you drink often with dinner. The GT3 is a good single malt scotch you sip occasionally when the desire for the experience strikes you -- no other accompanying excuse needed. You can drive the Boxster for hours. The GT3 is best enjoyed in spirited 1hr back-roads doses. It's a street legal race car with interior.

WHEW! Glad the Spyder is to remain in the stable! You found a good one. Hope you hang on to it.

If retaining the Spyder means having to part with the C2S to fund a GT3, then I call first dibs on the C2S!

Agreed, although I see it a little differently. The Spyder is safe, sane and reassuring. The one you can introduce to mom. The 6/3 is the crazy one that mom told you to stay away from but you just can’t help yourself.

I’d say that’s accurate based upon my brief drive with the 6GT3 a few years ago. Kind of like a Ferrari but without the maintenance and visual drama.

Very cool. I like the idea of that - a street legal race car with an interior!

You bet Nick - it's a beautiful split-grill. IF I make this move I will definitely feel the loss. I bought it for my 60th and drove it home through the mountains from Calgary. HUGE memories. But as you and Afshin know, I got bit by the GT3's a year or so ago... got the fever.

I agree. It's a badass but in the two recent times I've driven it I did not feel the power was a bat-s**t crazy like the 997.2 RS. That car I walk away thinking "this could bite in the butt!"... Perhaps I'm naively mistaken on the 6/3.

Yep - and like the 355's. I drove a 458 a couple months back and while I love the look of it I didn't like the drive nor the cockpit with all the do dat lights etc...

I'll keep you posted Afshin as to whether I'll buy you dinner in a month.

I’ve also owned a 996 GT3. It was a very raw, exhilarating car to drive. For me the 981 Spyder maintains the same sense of exhilaration and comparable performance while having the rough edges of rawness considerably smoothed over. While it currently functions as my weekend toy, if needed the Spyder could be a daily driver for me. The 996 GT3 was sold mainly because it was my daily driver at the time and wasn’t good for me in that role. The clutch was killer in stop and go city traffic, and the suspension was really tough for street use. But that Metzger 6 at redline was music!

No excuse for a past 996 GT3 owner to mispell Mezger

Ha ha! I run into that all the time. A good read for Christmas is "Porsche and Me" by Hans Mezger and Peter Morgan. Easy mistake.

https://www.amazon.com/Porsche-Me-Mezger-Peter-Morgan/dp/1906712085/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1542820703&sr=1-1&keywords=Hans+Mezger https://www.amazon.com/Porsche-Me-Mezger-Peter-Morgan/dp/1906712085/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1542820703&sr=1-1&keywords=Hans+Mezger

Also, FYI, if anyone wants to hear what a Mezger sounds like idling in all it's clackety glory then click here:

Don’t know what your issues are fellas. I also had a 996 GT3 and I never had an issue spelling the man’s name! It’s like somehow I see it every time I see the car. 😜
