981 without PSE. Can I install myself?
Just bought a 981 with Sport Crono but without PSE. They told me all cabels etc were in Place if you have the Sport Crono. Bought the muffler and tailpipe. Now - is there someone who can help me with instructions to fit it? Or guide me? Realy need help here. thanks.

The exhaust part isn't too hard...
A friend and I just installed an FVD Sound exhaust on my 2013 BS and it was a pretty straight forward project.
But yours is going to require some wiring for the PSE "button" so I don't have a clue how hard that is going to be. I would guess it will not be that easy to run all that wiring and pull the panel to insert the switch --- HOWEVER I have never done it so I really don't know for sure.
Good luck if you decide to tackle it yourself.

You'll need the new switch panel with the PSE button, and the wiring harness(s) that go from the cockpit to the muffler. I would start with your local dealership, as that's all going to be OEM Porsche parts.

I can tell you for certain the wiring is not there on a 987.2. I had a dealer install PSE on my car and wiring up the console button takes about 80% of the labor time. If Porsche decided to pre wire the 981's your task will be much easier.

Porsche used to pre-wire the cars but with the 997.1 and 997.2 and 9871.1 and 987.2 and on to the 991 and 981 variants..its likely not an option and you'll need to run the harness from the exhaust to the switch interior console. When I had my 997.1 done about 4 yrs ago that was a majority of the cost...labor to run and install the switch. Also it has to be hooked up to a PIWTS tester (Porsche computer) to activate it after install. Only the dealer can do that. So it is a nice bit of $$ and easier/cheaper option done prior to ordering the car. Still worthwhile if you don't mind the expense.

It's a great sounding muffler, perhaps a bit too quiet, but no drone etc... I keep it on 95% of the time.

I seem to recall that you can code the ECU to default the PSE to sport mode on startup.
I know you can install them in sport mode (without switch) because I know people that have done it. It may be as simple as using safety wire to wire the valve open.

Yes, the sport mode will activate the different ECU maps and throttle response, and trigger PASM and PSE to sport mode. But the wiring still has to be there. You can also have PSE without Sport Chrono, in which case you really need the button.

I installed pse from a Cayman R onto my 09 Cayman S last year. I did not have the wiring installed. The vacuum lines are plugged and it stays on loud/sport all the time. I do notice a slight decrease in torque by seat of pants in the low RPM's but the engine sings in the higher ranges now.
