Default 981 Spyder PSE sounds different in Sport Plus

With PSE on, didn't realize that the sound was different with Sport Plus on vs off. At idle, PSE is louder with Sport Plus on as well.

I believe the PSE sound changes as you go through the modes -
Off / Sport / Sport Plus.
Even with PSE off you notice a difference in exhaust tone.
It just gets more angry :-)

I don't hear any difference between Sport and Sport Plus.

Should only be valves open/close. There is nothing in between.

I know it's a different engine, but my Cayman GTS sounds different in sport plus with PSE on vs. "normal" with PSE on. Also, when lifting off the throttle in sport plus, the burble is more pronounced.

I suspect most of the popcorn overrun is generated by the ecu by letting some unburned fuel through. More in sport plus probably. I've noticed the same.

At idle, just watch the tach carefully - Sport Plus raises the idle speed a slight amount.

So what all does sport do... I've read the manual... Not much help. Looks like sport is just throttle map and perhaps tighter engine mounts? And sport plus includes looser PSM nannies plus auto rev, plus dynamic engine mounts to full hard? The manual doesn't say it, but I think sport also adjusts PSM/tc to relax. I was on a vey tight road the other day, and the car was binding up an kicking in the very tigh slow hairpins, so I turned sport on and it all smoothed out. Looser tc?

Yup, looser tc is one of the things. Also the rev limit goes from a lower soft limit to a slightly higher hard limit.

The bubble happens in both sport and sport plus modes. I think the main difference is rev match in sport plus when down shifting. That's the only mode I drive it in just because

I think sport plus changes more than that, but I avoid it because I don't want auto-rev match!

It might be worth following this GT4 thread, still in its infancy, where the same question is posed:

even in Sport Plus, the soft rev limiter seems to cut in at 7400 rpm

You can avoid auto rev matching in sport+ by depressing the PSM switch. But be warned that all the nannies are also turned off.
