Given the recent slowdown in 981 3.8L swap business we have resorted to what we know best and that is track prep and support! We are expanding our track support business in the southeast and our newest customer sent us a gorgeous black/black 981 GTS that we managed to turn around in less than 2 weeks just in time for this weekend's upcoming event at Barber Motorsports Park.

How do you deal with the airbag systems and the seat replacement? Is there any way to put Recaro seats in these cars without disabling the airbags or getting a light?

It's tricky and not easy BUT I have had to do it 3 times now on a 981. You just need the proper diagnostic equipment and the wherewithal to make it happen. Where are you located?

Thanks. I'm in New York City. I have a pair of Recaro Profi XL buckets from my old car, so I'm just trying to do some research to get a sense of whether it would even be possible to switch them in down the road, and if so, what the ramifications might be (mainly thinking about airbags bc my car will be a street car for the foreseeable future and I don't want to compromise safety on the street).

I almost purchased the PCCB package when I ordered my GTS but figured what you've done would be a cheaper and more future proof update. I'm really hoping this worked out well for you.

Thanks! No fade whatsoever! Oil temps peaked at 250F in 98F ambient temps. I wouldn't consider Barber a heavy braking, pad hungry track though but this setup was great. We didn't change the mapping in the ABS/PSM nor did we upgrade to the larger 991 S master cylinder. I wanted to see what would happen if you left everything as-is and did a proper ABS bleed with the Porsche computer and then a traditional caliper bleed afterwards.
The car has a ton of grip. He was able to keep up with a 997.1 GT3RS. The revised 8050 RPM rev limit along with the 16 lb flywheel were noticeable. No issues with the rev matching. No faults in the ECU once I reset all of the adaptations. That same day I got a video from my customer in the Dominican Republic running a similar setup in a PDK GTS, also hounding a 997 GT3 at a short track. Thee other Caymans and the GT3s were all in love with the PDK 987.2 R with the 3.8L DFI X51 swap. It was crazy how that car could pull just about anything around Barber!
The R7s on the 19s worked out great. The car has no problem pulling 1.5Gs in the corner with bolt-ons and added grip!

We are very impressed with how the car came out and more impressed how flawlessly it ran in the high temps at Barber when the car doesn't have the benefit of long straights to get fresh air over the radiators/condensers.
Lots of people think we're all abut the 3.8L swaps but years before we were allowed to run the 3.8L engine we slugged it out with the 3.4L platform!
