John, are you running the shorter gears of the base Cayman?

This car started life as a GTS so it has the stock gearing, same as the GT4. The goal is to install a "Frankenbox," which would be a 987.2 or 981 base transmission that has the shorter 1-2 gears from the factory and then mate the shorter 3-4-5-6 from Guard to it. Meanwhile my guys in Germany are going to revise the mapping for me so that the auto-blipper works. This is the reason for the cost of this ECU. It's not your run of the mill air fuel ratio revision. They have modified timing for intake flaps, other CAN bus messages and have the ability to provide their own coding for things like the auto blipper. I think that the car above making the power it is, with the shorter ratio gears will be quite snappy on a road course. Ultimately i think it will get a 3.8L in a year or two but for now, we are going to see what sort of potential we can make with bolt-ons for a 3.4L vehicle.

Gary,

The bar shown in the photo above was an early prototype before we made it again in-house. While that bar does not require removal, it does require removing the two down-bars that go to the shock towers. I found this to be too much work. We revised the 1st prototype and made the cross-bar that joins the shock towers removable (you can see one of the allen head bolts to the left of the LR shock canister). You just need a 1/4" allen wrench/driver and in less than 5 minutes you can have the 4 bolts out and the engine cover can be removed without significant additional labor.

Shown below installed in our 3.8L PDK 981 "Honey Badger" swap, this the bar we sell now looks like this:

Car looks great. There was a race prepped (white) 981 GTS at Miller Motorsport Park for our Enduro last month and it looked beautiful as well. It was fast as hell too.

Those guys called asking about setup advice. I guess it's a GTS with a bunch of weight removed. The guy that drives it is a current regular in the Pirelli World Challenge series.

That makes sense since the PWC race was just here as well.

I tried to stalk a brand new GT4 to get an idea on the acceleration potential with the raised RPM, lightweight flywheel and the mods that we sell for our Stage 1 Kit for the GT4. Sorry for the sound quality and the poor driving in turns 15, 16 and 17.

The car did great though. Oil temps were respectable all weekend long. Be sure to read the info on the You Tube video for additional information about the car.

Thanks!

So what's your conclusion on this vs the GT4?

I was really impressed with the car but we all know my thoughts on how great the 3.8L motor is. Obviously I would rather see all these mods on a GT4 making 415HP but at the same time, if you have an S and want a track car and can't get a GT4, you can get the S making 370HP which is a nice package. I don't know if it's enough though to be an alternative. Porsche priced the GT4 low enough to make it impossible to build a new 3.8L 981 with motor, brakes, suspension and aero for near $90K to start. If you could find a used S though under $60K and spent $10K in power mods to make 30HP, it would make sense.

I have promised my student and car owner 1 hour of free labor every time he passes the GT4 in the background AND gets it on video!

Stay tuned!

The same Stage I kit that we produce for the GT4 to make 415 - 430 hp is available also for the GTS customers. It consists of a spare 2nd remapped ECU for higher RPM limit, Cargraphic stainless steel longtube headers with 200 cell cats, upgraded high flow 981 air filters and the larger 991 82mm throttle body and IPD plenum. The addition of a lightweight flywheel guarantees you will exceed these target figures.

We were on track last week with a GT4 and the customer did not feel any sort of power differential when trying to hang with the GT4.

Great build!

Any reason you went with 991 PCCB front caliper, instead of just the 6pot 991S red caliper? Are the 2 the same? Is it just color preference? I'm planning to get 991 caliper too and want to make sure they are direct fit.
