I had a chance to see the Jag in person and the salesman fired up the V8 with and without the sport exhaust. The exhaust is incredibly loud and burbly, very sporty and surprising for a Jag.
Interior is also nice with lots of leather and an overall nice layout.
But if I had to choose I would pic the Boxster. The Jag to me comes across more like a Mercedes SL or SLK. It's powerful, handles well but with a big focus on comfort. At least with the Boxster you can option it the way you want.
Just finished a 120 drive.
This car is fabulous.
I should hit 1000 miles tomorrow - 1/2 way to seeing just how great it is at 7000 rpm. Can't wait, considering how fun it is at 4200 and below.
The Jag is pretty nice, but I have no envy...
The new Jag is ok. It's a nice car for sure, but the grin factor doesn't look to be all that high with it. The only other car that I like is the Lotus Elise/Exige, and I can see one of those on the horizon for me. So far the Spyder is exceeding all expectations I had of it. Initially I was concerned that 320 HP wasn't enough (coming from a 480 HP 996T), but on twisty roads I don't have a problem whatsoever with buddies who own a variety of exotics. The Spyder isn't a "drag racer" but the handling is sublime. The Jag is probably a bit more plush and boaty. A great GT cruiser for sure. I wouldn't turn one away if it appeared in my driveway.
Before you discount it as a drag racer, I'm just curious have you ever used launch control? I have it, I have not used it, my feeling is the car is very fast in acceleration, maybe it's just me. I like the Lotus cars except two things, too many vents, especially the Elise make it look like an insect from the front. Second, getting in and out, interior comfort and trip luggage space are all deal breakers.

You would be correct. I've seen videos of a Spyder drag racing (at a strip) and he beat pretty much every car except later Corvettes.

I am keeping my Spyder. All around an amazing car. I have no regrets buying one. More people have come up to me and asked about it than my AMG or 911 Turbo. On back road most exotics would be hard pressed to loose it due to the handling. I might buy an Exige as a track car since I gave up motorcycle racing. Who knows. I have not drag raced it. Yes---it is quick if launched right.
My other love is my Jeep---my DD. Also a 6 speed manual. Night and day.
