Yesterday I took the plunge and picked up my new Boxster. I purposely did not drive the S version as I wanted to see if I would be happy with the base model. Having owned 10 other Porsches over the years, including the 997TT, I was skeptical that I would find the power acceptable, but I absolutely loved the new styling and at the same time I didn't want to spend a fortune this time around.

Well all I can say is wow this is a well balanced car. After a nice test drive, the dealer found one that was well, but not over, equipped. The first thing I did on the drive home is to take it on some nice tight twisty roads. The car is an absolute delight and very confidence inspiring. I'm very happy with my choice and I know I'll enjoy it for a long time.

As an aside, my business partner came by later in the day with his 997 Cab. We drove them back to back and there's no doubt you can feel the extra power (torque) of his car right off the bat and it's a great car, but the balance of power and handling of the base Boxster was very impressive.

It's a great car, congrats! Pics, pls.
I only ordered an S because I wanted lots of options, so the price was mounting already, making $10K for 50 more HP seem "reasonable". However, I was almost completely happy with the base car when I drove it. I would have been happy driving either one long term.

Our 981 base will be here in June. Base car with convenience package, PASM & PTV. I have owned multiple 911s (from an SC to 997 C4S) and a 987 Boxster S, and had the new 991 C2S out for a very long test drive. For my personal taste the base 981 felt the most like a Porsche should, especially how much fun the 2.7 is coupled with the manual gearbox.

It's an incredible car at any price, but especially at what it costs, especially if you aren't an old fat guy who wants heated and ventilated seats and all that other fluff

Since my car will be a weekend & and warm weather car only, no heated seats needed. Ventilated would be nice, but can't only get them.

I insisted on ventilated seats, which required heated. Then I sat in the 14 way power seats and thought "these are nice". When I saw the Espresso natural leather interior, I wanted It, especially after reading Eduardo's posts on interior leathers. Then Eduardo got involved more and then I had PASM, PTV and Sport Chrono. A that point, might as well have light design and electric folding mirrors for the cool LEDs.
And that's why I'm getting an S.
the only difference I noticed driving base - S - base on the same loop, one after the other was better low end torque in the S. but I kept the RPMs at or below 4K per the salesman's request, so I'm sure that didn't help the base car. I'll bet it screams after break in.

I get 1% kickback on any additional option I can get any of you to order, plus a nice 'Valentine Card' each year from Sascha at 'Porsche Exclusive' and a frozen turkey at Thanksgiving FedEx'ed to me by PCNA CEO Detlev von Platen . Two years ago I was living in a trailer park in Salinas & driving a Chevy! Now I have a home near the Pacific Ocean & I'm into fancy VW's . Is this a great country or what?

Saludos,
Eduardo

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but when I try and upload a picture I keep getting a message that says it failed.
