Good choice; I went with PASM because it lowers the car by 10mm; important to the look of the car. I think all European Porsche models are lower; U.S. requires them to be higher; go figure. Vectoring to me is important if you are racing. Good point on the 20's; only ones that have satin finish.

I ordered my '08 CS. I wanted a gray exterior/red interior but couldn't justify spending the extra money on it. But in your case, I would order the red and get the dash, top of the doors, and the center council in black. Cost a bit more--but I really like the look of the two tone interiors. I'd also wait for bucket seats and the sports suspension. I saw a video of a 981 Cayman with buckets so I know they are coming!

The mistake I made when I ordered my car was that I didn't wait for the '09. Now I have a great street car; but not really the track oriented car I really wanted. Moral of the story? I'm waiting until the R/next release of this model is going to be before I look to replace my current one. The good sporty options always come out later in the product cycle. If you want any additional "sporty" options like the seats, sports suspension, R type car, I'd wait until they are available.

Sounds good to me man. The way I see it is that when I price something out, I always find ways to strip a couple grand here or there (maybe no PDK this time, or no PSE that time) but in reality when I check the payments I only end up saving about $50 a month or so. So for $50 or even $100 more a month I think its worth getting exactly the options you want instead of sacrificing. To me its worth 1 dinner out less a month or so to get exactly what I want.

I'm considering one, though I'm still inclined to get a GT3. For reference, I've had both the 996 GT3 and 997 GT3; 6 911's in total. But the new Cayman has me intrigued since (1) it looks so damn good w/o all the aero bits generally needed to make a 911 not look so drab, and (2) Chris Harris' review that makes me believe that while not the fastest machine on the planet, it may be one of the most fun/involving out there. My thoughts:

PTV a must to get the mechanical locker
Wait for sport suspension; never been a huge PASM fan. Have had 2 911s with PASM.
Sport chrono
No full leather (overpriced)
Burmeister. . . so expensive but soooo well sorted. Bose sucks. Not sure on this one.
Manual. Cars are supposed to be fun, right?
Sport exhaust. Cars are supposed to be fun, right?

Guards red
Wheels in gunmetal or whatever its called

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger and ordering one with these options:

Platinum Silver Metalic
Sport Seats Plus
Convenience Package (Auto A/C and heated seats)
Deletion of Model Designation
PASM
PTV
Bose
Sirius XM

I notice Porsche did away with the roof mounting points. Any suggestions on how to carry my bike?

What does sports chrono buy you with a manual transmission? Engine mounts, a snapper throttle map, and a fancy stop watch?

on 981, it's dynamic TRANSMISSION mounts ..

which are a bit pointless if you have a manual gearbox which is 30kg lighter than a PDK box. There's not a lot of weight for "dynamicness" .. in contrast to the 991 which is the whole engine

I ordered a 2014 CS. I did add 20" Carrera wheels and few other items to my list.

I drove a new Cayman S today with PDK and that confirmed my decision to go with the manual. The car drove great though, too bad I have to wait a few months before it's in my garage.

Obviously you like the new Cayman since you ordered one. What were your thoughts on the drive?

Great color combo and good choice of leather interior. Skip the PASM and PTV.

Sorry, did the bait and switch on you! Ended up going with Racing Yellow over Black.

That's going to look good as well. Did you go with yellow stitching?

Decided against it when I went with the black interior. Need to get full leather to get the stitching so it would have been a lot of extra coin for a few pieces of yellow thread. Looks great, but doesn't make the car go any faster!
