I like it but I think the overall lines look better on the Boxster.

The front end and rear hatch both remind me of the 360 Modena, this is a good thing!

I'm reserving full judgement until I have seen the car in person.

I also thought 360 when looking at the front 1/3 of the vehicle. It does look promising, can't wait to see one in person, although the hp increase leaves a little to be desired.

The problem is that if they go much higher than they'll encroach on the base 911 which has 350 HP. The difference between the base cayman and cayman S is already more than between the cayman S and the 911.

I wish it had more too, but they won't let that overlap with their 911.

Agree on the 360 lines ... and the disappointment (although not unexpected) lack of HP

While that is of course the case, many of us thought that with the big step forward in refinement and price with the 991 (and overwhelming praise for the outgoing Spyder/R models), Porsche was opening the door for the mid-engined cars to finally have very distinct personalities of their own; more 'sports car' to the 911 'GT car', and less of the 'couldn't afford a 911' stigma. Limiting power, unfortunately, only perpetuates the stigma.

BMW, MB, Audi, and Aston Martin (to name a few) all put the same motors in different sized cars at different price points.

Porsche should get rid of the PowerKit option, put that motor in the Carrera S, give the standard Carrera 400hp, and bump the mid-engined cars to 350hp.

It really doesn't make sense why Porsche won't give the mid engines the HP with two exceptions.

1. They are building a higher end mid engine to be placed above the 911. So they need to keep Hp down on the 981.

2. Many people buy the 911 for status only and they would be insulted if a cheaper priced 981 handled better, accelerated faster, braked better and had the same Interior and build quality.

By doing above Porsche alienates the enthusiasts who want the best performance without the additional fluff.

There will be a "New" Mid Engine Porsche between the 911 and 918.... Don't forget about that.

The upcoming mid-engined Porsche would compete on another level - 500hp range, along with the next Gallardo, upmarket R8, 458, McLaren, etc. at the $250-300k price point. Some more beans in the Boxster/Cayman would not be a threat.

And those buying the 911 for status know they spent more, so that is all that matters.

I thought I might have been the only one thinking this.....something doesn't look right on the Cayman to make it perfect, I guess just have to see in person. But Boxster hands down in pics or real life looks perfect!

In the press shots, it looks like the brake calipers are not the ones on the new boxster. They look similar to the old ones, and should be easy to swap pads for the track. Anyone know?

And for me, the extra couple inches of leg room would be perfect. Particularly if I ever put in a half-cage.
