I agree and I am coming from a BMW M3 that I had for seven years -- it was grey with red interior. (Since it was a BMW, the interior was black with only the leather in red; a bicolor effect.)

If you change to a black top, I would spec a black carpet as well -- sort of bookends of black in an otherwise Carrera Red interior.

My advice is to stick with the original plan - the only possible deviation would be a black top - other wise I think you've chosen wisely.

I have silver with red. The more you drive with the top down, the more you should get red interior. I have about 2,000miles now, less than 50 of those are with the top up, that's less than 3 % of the time. When I am driving, I feel the interior is a showcase, not just the exterior. Although, I find myself not wearing red shirts anymore.

I requested a PTS Gulf Blue 997S back in 2005 for a MY06 delivery. After 90 days Zuffenhausen came back and said, "chose another color." They were actively doing the testing and ultimately had to turn it down for the 997 because, according to them, they were having difficulty with light, non-metallic colors. I chose another blue, a vintage Ferrari blue from the 1950s and that was also turned down. Ultimately, I chose a color from the 1990s which was last put on their 993 Carreras, Turbos and Boxsters. In time they reluctantly agreed to paint my car Blue Turquoise (3AS). It was a 9 month wait, coupled with a European Delivery. In retrospect, I'm really happy to have been turned down on the Gulf Blue--it just doesn't really look right on the 997 body to me. I've been more than pleased with the Blue Turquoise that they confirmed for me and delivered. Apparently it has caught on with others in the Rennlist community. A couple of other guys have asked if I would mind if they copied my combination of Blue Turquoise and Natural Brown leather interior. I believe there are now about 5-6 of them running around the planet. The latest done was a late 997 GTS coupe in BT but with a black interior. I think the Gulf blue issue is more a technical one than a political one.

If still considering keeping the Red with GT Silver or Brown with GT Silver...look up photos of the Boxster RS60 and the Boxster 550 Anniversary. Also, if you want to tone down the red interior see if you can get a car with deviating carpet in black. I saw a 987 with an all red interior and black carpet and it was really sharp!

I really like blue, but I'm not sure what color I'd choose for an interior. I've just never been a big fan ot tan interiors and thats what is often on blue cars.
As for the deviating stitching, its a personal choice, but its been done on so many cars that I find I've grown tired of it...but its a personal choice.

As the others have said, you have a lot of great options.

1. Changing the top to black is a great option and will tone down the red from the outside.

2. The espresso interior is a deep and rich color. My husband has it in his 991 and it is beautiful and would be a great choice.

3. If you want to stick with the red interior consider adding deviating carpet in black. I did it in my 981 and it really helped "cut" the red and tone it down. I also did the black top for the same reason.

4. Keeping it as is would be beautiful too- you've built yourself a great car

Whoops! This is Shixon's wife posting- i was browsing the forums on his laptop and didn't realize he was logged in. He has the expresso on his 991 and I have the red in my 981- sorry my last post reads a little odd.

When i got my 356, a 60B coupe in Aetna Blue, I wan't too sure about the color but it has really grown on me over the years. It was only originally availlable with light gray or red interior and a 981 or 991 would look great in that combo!

Silver and black looks great, but it will be far from unique. Now silver and red Boxsters will be few and far between. IMO you can't go wrong with either combo.

I vote for silver and red ! Does anyone know if Polar silver is on the PTS list? I am thinking of ordering Polar silver and blue top and blue interior myself! I just love the blue that is in the polar silver and I really think it will be a unique combo!

Yes it would! By the way MAHack, the color of the 356 B in your photo doesn't look like the Aetna Blue I remember from my 356 days or the color the factory has pre-approved. But it could be the light or some other factor in your photography.

You can look it up yourself by going to post #4 on this thread. Polar is on the 'list' but on the date the list was published it had not yet been approved. The sheet informs you that a 'feasibility study' has begun on that particular color (by another customer or dealer). So we don't know yet if its approved or not. You will have to contact PAG to find out if it passed the various tests they put a color through before it's approved. But they should know by now - since its about 2 months later from the date of that publication!

Thanks, I did not notice the PDF. So, sorry! I will have to check with the dealer to see if it now available. I have a special birthday coming up and want to get myself a nice present!
BTW, slightly OT, but there was a speed yellow Cayman with red interior and yellow seat belts on one of those car auction shows last night! Surprisingly, it didn't look bad.

Yes it's definitely Aetna...original on the car, but yes the lighting is off in the photo. Great color though.
