Default How big of a red flag? 27k miles in the first year prior to service, Cayman GTS.

I am in the market for a 981 Cayman GTS, I found a moderate mileage (50k) example with a good set of options I wanted offered at a reasonable price. Car looks and sounds great, however the Carfax had some surprising numbers. As my title suggests, the first owner put approximately 27k miles on in the first year of ownership before changing the oil and filter, this is the first documented service on the car. The first owner drove it another 8k miles in 6 months before it was serviced again (brake fluids, oil, air filter). A few months later it was sold and fully serviced. The second owner appears to have driven it 2500 miles a year with regular service and no issues for 6+ years.

So I am trying to figure out how concerning that first owner is on an 8 year old car that seems to be well kept and running fine long after. Currently the car is slated for a ppi, would a clean ppi make you comfortable given the history or should I not even bother?

if it passes the PPI you're fine and I wouldn't be concerned about it. if it isn't sludged up then chances are they just changed the oil during those first 27k miles themselves.

if everything that happened to a car was actually documented, no one would buy used cars.

Good point, from what I gathered there really isn't anything in the first 35k miles you couldn't do at home.

Manual or PDK? A GTS has all the bells and whistles. 27k in a year is a lot. One could assume or hope a good portion of that mileage was highway mileage. I would not be too concerned. More important are the spark plugs. Porsche recommends every 4 years to prevent seizing issues of the plugs and aluminum head. A plug change is not cheap because of the labor hours. Check the age of the battery and tires, regardless of tread depth. 5-6 years on the tires, maybe a little longer on the battery. Check the brake rotors for a lip. All too common to put new pads on used rotors. Doing your own brakes is a big savings. Check the headliner and headlights. Suspect this has leather door cards so warping should not be an issue.

It’s PDK, it has PS4S on it so I should check when they were put on.

Not hard to do 2-3 oil changes at home..
What else is there to do before 27K?
