Anyone know the torque for these three bolts? Also, can this be done from below or is this a remove the engine cover job? I’m going to do this with my annual oil change shortly…thanks for the info on this. Lou

13 Nm (9.5 ftlb). Looks like you'll need to loosen the fasteners from the rear of the under body cover and bend it down a bit to get to the back fastener. Might be able to get in there without that though. depends on your hand size and dexterity. Here's what it looks like.

Yes I jammed a piece of wood to hold the cover open to get the top back bolt. A little fiddly but not hard. With cover off it would be no issue.

The failure rate for this joint was high enough for Porsche to design and produce a repair kit, consisting of an aluminum "C" Ring and 3 longer bolts to support the Thermoset plastic pipe flange. See picture below;

The kit installs in minutes with no need to disassemble anything other than removing the 3 original bolts, inserting the new support clamp and installing the new longer bolts.

Saves you from needlessly replacing a good water pump.
So can this bracket be installed without losing a ton of coolant? ( I want to be prepared...)

coolant will come out if you let the pipe move. I lost maybe 20ml. But I was holding the pipe to stop it from leaking. So no removing the bolts and walking away. Have them ready to go with the bracket.

Should have asked earlier... Loctite on these bolts or just torque 'em?
Thanks in advance. Lou

Default Installed bracket today.

No coolant leaked as I made sure the car was totally cooled off and was very careful to not disturb pipe while removing old bolts. I don't think it will move unless other end is disconnected / loose. The bracket only fits one way. Level of difficulty: very easy.

Tools: Torx T25 and 10 mm socket to remove under panel. 10 mm female e-torx socket w 6" socket extension and ratchet wrench to remove old bolts and install bracket bolts. Torque wrench for 13 Nm final bolt torque.

Total time: 35 minutes (tool selection and parts procurement not included) includes placing car on lift and clean up.

Pic of installed bracket.

Finally got around to installing the retaining bar on mine today. Easy as it can get. I took the underbody shield off for easier access. No leaks during the installation.

Was this introduced during 981 production or after? In other words, should is this applicable for all 981s or just earlier MYs?

My understanding is that the Retainer Bar was introduced around the end of 981 production (late 2016). So if you have a late 981 you may or may not have this part on your car.
Best to simply look underneath and see if its there.
