Really?? If I don't lock my doors, after about 15 minutes the CTEK trickle charge will stop.

I believe the charger will shut itself off when the battery is sufficiently charged (so it doesn't overcharge). I've never locked my doors, and had no problems with the charger, but I haven't put the car into long-term storage; only had it on the trickle charger overnight.

Locking the doors is only to prevent the car from going into "sleep mode". From the Suncoast notes on the Porsche charger for the 981: "Long term storage can put these cars in "Sleep Mode", which will disable the center console plug socket and shut off the battery maintainer. To bypass this, lock the door after setting up the battery maintainer. Or directly connect the battery maintainer to the recommended charging points using the optional alligator clips."

I've been using the power socket in the passenger footwell for long-term storage of my '14 CS with a CTEK 3300 for the past 6 years with no issues (doors unlocked). The passenger footwell socket was always more convenient for me so never tried the center console socket. Guess they operate differently.

That's it, "Sleep Mode". Mine definitely goes into sleep mode, it sounds like this isn't the case with all 981's.

Correct, this can vary from one car to the other and it seems to be possibly software related as there have been post over the years of members reporting having their dealer do some sort of update so the sockets are always live. My 2014CS for example has never had to be locked in order to keep things working. I simply plug the adapter into the socket in the passenger footwell and done. Others with the exact same car model year as mine may shut off. There are also just as many that will tell you that doing the locking trick shown above accomplishes nothing as those who claim it worked for them, so the results on this particular subject matter seem to be all over the place with no consistency.

Here is one thing that is true and consistent. Locking your car tells the computer of your intent to be removed from the vehicle and your wish to shut it down and secure it. I park my car in a locked garage every night with the windows down and the car locked. That shuts down all electrical systems except the alarm to minimize battery drain.

Yeh, why not just lock it? I haven't thoroughly tested, but I use a CTEK and lock it and all is dandy.

The car (most of its computers) goes to sleep after it's turned off and the doors are shut. This will also kill the power to the passenger side footwell plug. The trick is to open and close the passenger side door after you plug the CTEK in (if you plugged it in from the driver's seat and not by opening the passenger door). The car will then notice the charger and leave it be.
