Default Toy Haulers for 981 Cayman?

Hey all - Any recommendations on what toy haulers (makes/models) can fit/haul a 981 Cayman?

Thnx,

My Sundowner brought my Cayman home just fine. Heck, I picked my wife’s Cayenne up with it too. 18’ garage, 40’ overall

I'm actually interested in what bumper-pull toy haulers could fit a 981 Cayman? There don't seem to be many options out there that can fit 981 dims and weight. ATC has a pretty sweet bumper-pull toy hauler that looks like it would work, but they are expensive (>$50k).

Looking for something preferably used and <$20k.

I think you are looking for a unicorn....

Ive been following the enclosed trailer market for a couple of years. Most toy haulers are not designed for the weight of a car, Many have the room, but are only good for 2000lbs or so.

Price wise a good fully outfitted (cabinets and AC) enclosed trailer is 20k, toy hauler or just a good camper is more than that.

Not that unicorns don't exist, a buddy of mine just bought a 50ft transporter (semi truck and trailer) at auction for 35k.

Why a toy hauler specifically? Like a previous poster said they don't have the weight capacity nor is the angle of the ramp ideal. They are typically built above the axles while trailers have the tires up inside the frame. I have a 28 foot that is perfect for me, i can carry most any vehicle and my golf cart along with spares/tools. I carry a nice set of cots, has a fridge and all i need to cook at the track. All i'm missing is a bathroom but frankly i don't want to deal with fresh water, black and grey tanks.

All good points. Kind of validates what I've been seeing. Used pedestrian bumper-pull toy haulers which are a dime a dozen either don't have sufficient garage space (length x width) and/or are not weight rated to haul a Cayman. It looks like at least ATC, Intech and Stealth offer car rated bumper-pull toy haulers and/or they can outfit their enclosed car trailers as such, but that's more $$$ than my budget allows at this point.

My idea for a toy hauler was to be able to do some camping with the fam in addition to hauling the car to the track. At this point, probably go direction mentioned above. Get enclosed car trailer maybe 8.5 x 20 or 24 and doing some outfitting to it.

For the last year I've been renting RV and having them delivered to the track.. I've gotta say it's been awesome.

I can get an RV much larger than I can store or tow. And have it setup and torn down for me. No dealing with filling and emptying tanks, no maintenence, no hassle... So far its been a great experience. The only downside has been finding them near where I want to go.

For me, doing 6 events a year its a no brainer on cost. If you are doing 10+ events it may not be so economical.

I tried to find the same for my 987.2. Looking for a unicorn... Seems like one metric was always off. Either the weight rating was too low, cargo area too short, or living space insufficient. Only thing I found was a gargantuan 5th wheel.

The problem with bumper pulls is that the mfgrs gear them towards half ton trucks, so they are built light, thus gvwr is always low. Its a physics problem at the end of the day.

I've been looking for exactly the same trailer for ages - very hard to find. I've found that searching for 'Car Hauler with living quarters' works better than 'toy hauler' - at least it eliminates all the traditional toy haulers made for dirt bikes and 4 wheelers. I've looked carefully at ATC and agree that they are just too pricey new, and when one comes up for sale used - its gone superfast.

I currently have a 24ft enclosed that's pretty nice in that the interior is finished, it has cabinets and AC and 50-amp hook up along with an awning. I usually sleep in it at the track, on a blow up bed. But it certainly wouldn't be suitable for 'camping' with family. I've really considered customizing it (there are millions of YouTube videos on the subject) but haven't done so - still hoping to come across a trailer that meets my needs.

A manufacturer I've come across that is quite a bit cheaper than ATC, Intech, Sundowner, etc. is Millennium Trailers (https://www.milltrailers.com/) - but I have no idea of quality.

Good luck with your search.

I gave up on the Toy Hauler idea and recently picked up a nicely equipped Bravo 8.5'x20' enclosed trailer... escape door, 30amp service, cabinets, finished interior, etc. I'll sleep in it with a smile knowing how much money I saved vs. a car capable toy hauler.

Congrats, a fiscally smart decision. Does it have AC? My packing list for a weekend at the track in my enclosed non-toy hauler includes: small generator, box fan, portable electric fridge, toaster over, coffee maker, blow up mattress, foldable aluminum picnic table. The only things I really miss are running water and a bathroom.

By the way - for electrical hookup I recommend you get some long 30 amp extension cords and several adapters because I've found that there is a wide variety of power outlets out there. A lot of places will have only 110 (15amp) or 110 and 50amp, while other places will have 30 amp and 110, its a mixed bag. So you will want a 110 to 30 amp adapter and probably also a 30 amp that splits to two 110 (you can convert two 15 amp outlets to a 30 amp). I've never looked into a 50 amp to 30 amp converter...not sure it exists, but if it does that would be pretty useful.

Thanks for the heads up on the adapters. That didn't even cross my mind.

50 amp to 30 is out there I have one for my hybrid camper.

another thing to consider is a line protector. I plug it in first and on one park on there 30 amp it was showing it had reverse polarity on the line. So I used my 50 amp adapter and that line was fine. Reported it and used the 50 amp side while I was there.

If you find you need more room inside you can retrofit hybrid camper style bed to your setup.
