Gents,
Looking for recommendations for decent track tires for my CGTS. Have a set of 18” OZ wheels and want a second of tires for the occasional DE event. Had my heart set on Hankook RS-4s but Tire Rack only has 3 of the 4 tires I need. What’s the next best alternative for a 200 TW tire that I can drive to/from the track and can get a reasonable amount of track weekends out of? Lots of good tires out there, but few that fit our 981s.
TIA.

I'm running 18" on my 981. I started the year running Nitto NT01 (TW100 DOT streetable) tires for track days. Was super pleased with these tires on track. Amazing grip in the dry. Didn't have much opportunity to run them in the wet. I got about 7 track weekends out of them. Probably could've gotten a couple more weekends if my camber was set up right (outers wore out). Loud and harsh ride on the street though.
Lately I've been running Hankook RS-4s. Saw others running these at the track and some of the endurance guys run these, so I figured I'd give them a try. Also pleased with this tire so far. Very affordable. Wear through 3 DE weekends has been minimal. Dry grip is good, although seems to be less than the NT01. Grip in the wet has been really good. Not as loud and harsh of a drive vs. NT01 on street.
Hope this helps.

You might also want to check out the Yokohama A052. I don't have experience with this tire, but supposedly it's pretty good and I've have seen others running them on Caymans at the track. They offer 245/40/18 and 275/40/18 fitment.

This article has a pretty good overview of what's available: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/ar...-buyers-guide/
I have been running RE71R, but those have one event left in them, so I'll have to make a switch when they wear out. I am hopeful that tire's replacement, the RE71RS, will be available in the US before I need to buy another set of track tires. If not, then either the Falken RT660, Goodyear Supercar 3, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup are at the top of my list. Size availability is going to be a factor in your choice, and since you didn't mention wheel widths or offsets, not to mention suspension lowering or front camber settings, it's difficult to make a specific recommendation.

Nitto NT01s are the way to go if you want a track compound that you can drive to and from the race track (245/40-18 // F. 275/40-18 R.). They are not going to be quite as fast as the new kids on the block (Advan A052, Falken RT660, or Goodyear Supercar 3R), but they offer plenty of grip for most drivers and they are going to last substantially longer allowing you to rack up more laps (working on the driver mod).
Years ago I would often recommend Hankook RS-3s to novice drivers, however, I don't love the newer RS-4s.
Assuming your OZ's are 8.5" up front, the 245 / 274 tire combo makes the most sense. 255 and 265 wide front tires are best supported by wider 9" front wheels.

OP, I think that's what Apex is telling you. NT01s are known to wear like iron. You should get crazy longevity out of them. Understand if you're looking for something else though.
