Default 6 months of ownership - what I liked and didn't.

Not trying to be controversial or disparage what is a very good car, just not the right one for me.

What I liked;

The steering “communicativeness”, not as good as my 996 GT3, but still very good.

The shifter “rifle-bolt” action.

The cockpit aesthetics.

The cockpit ergonomics.

The rear ¾ view.

The ride quality / suspension damping.

The cool little storage shutters in the engine cover area.

The door pulls.

The LWBs.

Autoblip.

Real time oil and water temperature readout.

What I didn’t like;

The sound scape. Not sure what I truly heard when driving under little load 3 – 4000 rpm, but it was not appealing. Was it the high pressure injectors, the engine oily bits reciprocating, or the transmission bits doing their thing???? Whatever, it didn’t appeal to me. The sound scape wasn’t exhaust or intake noise focused enough for me. The car sounded quite good climbing through 5K and above, but that was only 30% of drive time.

The front view. Gaping cooling vents in the bumper cover made the car look a bit insectile to me.

The color.

Gearing? The “high” gearing wasn’t a deal breaker, but I can see why it is a point of controversy.

20” wheels, just looked too large for my taste.

Weirdness;

The sport exhaust button. I could detect no difference between modes?

Bottom line;

If it sounded better, yes completely subjective, so don’t post, “you should have installed a brand X exhaust”, I was trying to improve overall sound, not drown out what I didn’t like.

And

If it were guards red or speed yellow, I’d likely still own it.

Be well.

Craig

For reference, what were the specs of your 981? (Cayman or Boxster, Year, base/S/GTS, options, color?)

Maybe there was something up with PSE...? In my car there is unquestionably a difference. I know you said you didn't want to change things but headers would have 100% solved your sound issues. It makes low RPM interesting and high RPM something you can't help but utilize. Especially with PSE to play with your emotions like a turbo. I enjoy PSE being in Auto mode more than open with the headers. That way it rolls in and you can feather it with the throttle. Its definitely more of an event than just loud all the time.

As for intruding engine noise... its an all out performance model of a small mid engine sports car. Yeah I see you have other mid engines in your stable but that is what 900 extra lbs buys you. Refinement at the cost of being light on its feet.

I see we have the same affinity for Audi Wagons....

Yes, I just came across one of his previous posts and his sale on Bring a Trailer for $94,000.

Not sure why anyone would buy a sports car that they didnt like the color of. Weird.
