Default Seeking guidance

Hi there,

I'm entering the Porsche world for the first time & taking my time looking around for just the right roadster.

I came across this 981 for sale in Newark that has every feature technologically I'm looking for, but I have found something curious and frankly rather odd about the car...

The listing, and the VIN, both reflect the Boxster base model, but the dashboard software display on the third ring shows Boxster GTS. The listing itself doesn't show the rear deck lid or the door entry sills for badge identification.

My questions: Is that logo display on the dashboard something that can be changed out by a clever DIYer?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

My guess is that the picture does not belong to the car listed, a common practice it seems as photographing every car that comes up fort sale is a lot of work. Only way to know for sure is to look at the actual car in person.

Likely not a GTS. GTS not available that early. Pics are legit from the dealer. Looks like the calipers have been changed or painted. Base calipers should be gray/black, not red. Also the center gauge in pod would have a GTS logo. I'm guessing software Tom Foolery.

The pictures on the dealer site are definitely not a base. Shows having sport, sport plus and sport exhaust. Description says Boxster S but shows a 2.7 engine. Ad is really messed up. If it was me I’d move on from that dealer.

correction: exterior pictures likely base but interior is not. Still messed up.

The model information on the startup display can be changed using software. See thread here, reply #14 and following.

as others have noted, it’s more likely in this case that the pictures are not the correct ones for this car. It’s not uncommon to see errors like this particularly in recent months when cars sell so quickly. Sometimes they dont bother to put pictures on the listings at all.

Yet another example of the value of putting your location in your info box on the left side of your post.

I agree, some dealers figure it's not worth the time, putting together a 'true' listing since the car will sell in a week or 2 regardless. Pretty sad honestly, I would definitely be wary of buying anything sight unseen for the next few months.

Interior pictures from further back still have the GTS graphic visible so I am pretty sure they are photos of the current state of this particular car.
I think a software change was made to the PCM as mentioned earlier plus the center stack buttons appear to be from another build since this doesn't have sport exhaust or sport chrono as the buttons would indicate.
...Frankenstein of a Porsche .. proceed with caution. Could be a big mess.

If there is just one red flag I walk away and this car certainly raises red flags. JMO
