Default 981 door panel warping

Hey all,
my name is Derek

Im a self proclaimed DIY guy and this post is about the many cars out there with warping door panels.
For starters, the delamination of the foam and plastic substrate is easily fixed with some Weldwood contact cement. It works well and is a trade secret amongst interior specialists. As for the plastic substrate the foam attaches to, well that’s a different story.

my goal is to provide a viable option to folks like myself who are out of warrantee and need some help.

Personally, I just purchased a used 2014 Cayman S with only 11K miles on the ticker and have already had to do the headliner and am now having to address the door panels. At first I glued the foam to the plastic substrate which helped but still not the fit expected from such a car.

currently, I’m working with Porsche and my local dealer so I’ll update how that goes. Otherwise, I have an idea that may work. I have nothing to loose at this point so either way, I’ll add to this post my results.

I would like to say, Porsche has said, “we’ve never heard of this issue” yeah, right!?!

Cheers,
Derek

The best answer is a class-action suit. The second best answer may be to have them repaired by Pedro Bonilla's existing process.

Porsche is notorious for not standing behind some of their foul ups... IMS was a big one, this is also....

That’s perfect! Thank you so much. I just spoke with Pedro’s garage and got the 411. This sounds like a better way to go than even new door panels which will eventually suffer the same fate.

Porsche replaced headliner under warranty. If my door panels warp and Porsche will not make it right, they are going to Pedro.

Ha! I just did my headliner a couple days ago... that was fun. Car only has 12K on it and it was totally down. Car came from Georgia so guessing that didn’t help things.
Disappointing having to repair these types of issues on such an expensive vehicle.
