Default CTEK Charge-O-Mat hook up question

I have the CTEK Charge O Mat with the cig. lighter adapter and it apparently does not work plugging into the cig. lighter. Is there a proven way of using the existing plug on the CTEK to attach to the battery, I have the wires that would allow me to connect directly to the battery, but don't see how to use it considering I have the cig. lighter adapter?

Then plug the red one to the plus terminal and black one find a screw which attaches to the body of the car. If your hardwire stretches far enough you can reach the designated ground clip on the right hand side as well.

Hard wired means the cig. adapter cannot be taken off the CTEK. I may have to cut off the adapter and have someone make the battery wires connect to the CTEK, unless someone has a better idea.
