Default I need help with a quick Photo - 981 Trunk Lid Letters

Hi Friends,

The original owner of my 981 Cayman S deleted the lettering / emblem on the trunk lid and I am looking to replace it.

I don't need measurements, but I just need a nice, high quality photo at a 90 degree angle from the surface of the trunk lid (See attached photo as a guide), if anyone can pop into their garage and help me with it, I would greatly appreciate it! with a good photo, I will make the measurements based on the size of the letters on CAD software, which I have at home now. I will make a little guide for others to follow with detailed measurements since I know people ask this from time to time.

Big Thanks!

Won't the effective focal length of the lens have some effect on the size that may skew your measurements?

Yes, probably by a mm or so at the most. As long as the picture is taken roughly at a 90 degree angle from the center "S" and not too close, I think it should be okay.

Actually, anyone else mind posting more photos so I can have several to cross-reference? I'd appreciate it!

I've debadged the Cayman S part but this might give you more reference for the PORSCHE section.

Perfect! Thanks, conceptDawg. I've measured my letters to be 4 cm wide, so I will use that for all references. I'll upload the measurement guide once I finish it.

So I was working on the measurements and noticed something. It is probably an effect of the camera angle, but is there a chance your letters are not completely centered? I measured the outer edge of the P to the edge of the trunk to be about 168 mm and the outermost edge of the E to the other edge of the trunk lid to be about 161 mm, or a 7 mm difference. I don't believe they would be this off and not be noticeable, right? Is there any chance you could measure and check my numbers to see how close I actually am? Thanks!

I think you need more photos, or better ones, or ones taken at the correct focal length. I don't know. I just measured the letters on my 2015 base Cayman. Widths are P=41 O=41 R=41.5 S=41 C=40 H=39 E=42. Spacing between each letter at 41.5. All measurements in millimeters.

Weird that it's so different from the silver car posted above with inter-letter spacing of 36-37 mm. Would you mind posting a photo like the above one for reference? Thanks in advance!

85 mm focal length. Can't get far enough away inside garage.

Those letters are from the factory. I've never taken the PORSCHE off. So not sure if it's lens morphology, factory error, or just measurement errors.

It's also quite possible, though doubtful, that PORSCHE is minutely off-center to account for visual weighting. That's the type of detail that Porsche might take into account.

I've seen them put these things on at the factory and they use a plastic template or buck that kind of hooks around the body panels. I'm guessing that there can be a mm or two of play in these things?
