Default Loose Upper Trim on 981 Door Panel

So I noticed today that the upper trim piece of the driver's door panel was loose. Has anyone had this happen? If so, what's the best fix? I can't tell how this is supposed to be attached, though it feels like there was some adhesive there at one point but it's hard to tell. Any tips on the best way to fix are welcome!

It's a known issue with the 981's.
Unfortunately, it's also an expensive fix. I believe the entire door card has to be replaced.

Both of mine on my BS were replaced under warranty, and they had just barely started to bow up a bit, looked nothing like the OP photo.

As already stated, the normal fix is to replace the door panel (about $3500 for one panel, or thereabouts) so most replacements are done under warranty. If the car is out of the warranty period, there are some people out there that do repair the existing panels, for a few hundred dollars per side. Do a search here to get some references. One place that comes to mind is "Pedro's Garage" in Florida. No affiliation.

I can't contribute anything worthwhile to the OP but really kinda dig your signature...

Sorry you’re having this issue with your recent acquired Cayman but if you do a quick search on “ Door Panel Warping “ there’s plenty of info out there.

Read post 19 in this thread and send the member “ UKEEKONE “ a PM as he seems to have to most affordable solution if you aren’t covered under warranty.
https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...el-warp-2.html

There was some info out there saying that PCNA May cover a good portion of the replacement cost as a “ Good Will “ measure.

Or you can join this class action suit;

I also had the door cards replaced under CPO warranty for the exact same issue. I have also heard of people gluing them as well but not sure as to the quality of the results. If you are under warranty, take it to your dealer and see what they will do, most likely replace the door cards. Or check out @UNEEKONE , he does have door cards for our vehicles. And a great guy, know him personally!

@Dr.Bill - I agree, great signature line!

That's really frustrating. I wish Porsche would get ahead of this and fix it. It seems like a very expensive fix for something that should be designed better.

Agreed. When was the last time you saw interior panels warp in a Japanese or even American car that’s 6 yo?

Just insist that your dealer replace them under warranty. It’s a known issue with porsche and if you’re firm with your dealer you’ll get them to change them under warranty.

I had my door panels fixed by Pedro Bonilla at pedrosgarage.com a couple months ago. Check out his website - he offers discounted shipping and a quick turnaround. You won't be disappointed.

I used 3M double sided tape. It worked pretty well. Not 100% but enough I don’t notice it or think about it.

Necro bump here, but it's the most recent thread. Add another to the list of trim that's pulled away from the upper panel. It's a new to me 2014 BS that I've been in possession of for oh, 4 days. Disappointing. Checking with a local upholster here in Beaverton, OR before I pull the card and ship it to Pedro. Bleh.
