Default Looking at 981 Boxster

I’m thinking about trading my C63 for a 981 Boxster Manual.

I already have a 996 so, I have built in paranoia about endemic issues.

What am I looking at losing sleep over if I jump into the 981 world?

Thanks in advance!

I did it and I don't regret it one bit. The C63 was awesome in a brute force kinda way. The Boxster is awesome in a surgical, mechanical perfection kinda way.

Thanks, Spyder! Beautiful cars. I read the Spyder thread and really love the look.

It's always special when someone puts their time and effort into creating something for you. Does anyone know a place where I can order personalized gifts?

Wow, what a great birthday gift from your daughter Catherine! Even though she prefers drawing people, she did a fantastic job with the car drawing.

I had an Alpine White '09 M3 before my 981. No regrets here although it was a nice car.

Same here, e90 M3 to the 981. Miss my e46 325i more than the M3. M3 was soulless, where as the 981 has boatloads of character.

To the OP, the only thing you'll lose sleep over is the possibility of warped door cards and crazed headlights. Pretty minor in the grand scheme.

Do it!!

Have had a 2014 981S for 3 years. Mechanically no issues. Had warped door panels when I bought it. Sent them to Pedro's Garage in FL for a permanent fix (about $300-350 per panel) guaranteed as long as I own car. Pedro Bonilla is a stand-up guy and does a great job. I'm beginning to get a small amount of crazing in headlights, not yet any issue. And I had my Bose PCM unit die on me. After the dealer suggested I replace it at $3500, I was directed to BeckerUS. For a flat fee of $1050 they repaired and fully inspected the unit with a year guarantee. Works fine.

Bought car with 17,000 miles. Changed spark plugs since they are a 20,000 mile item (to prevent seizing in place). Have changed oil annually (about 3K mile interval for me) and flushed brakes. Did one DE last year and had an absolute blast.

My gut tells me this will be a long term keeper.

BTW, it shares a garage with my 996 as well. Different tools. Boxster is quick and precise, but also a great tourer (just came back to NC from Werx Reunion at Amelia).

I got rid of my E92 M3 but kept my E46 330i for a daily, and still love it 20 years later. Electric Red, black leather, slick-top and 6-speed. It's a nice companion for the 981 CS.

Been fortunate enough to have cared after many cars over my short years on this planet but can say my wife’s 981 Boxster is one of our favorites to take out in day to day life.

She doesn’t even consider her e92m, my 982 GT4, or our Tesla and our SUVs when the weather permits.

The last time we have gotten this level of joy out of driving on the streets was my NA Miatas’ I had in college.

Have to agree with those favoring the 981 Boxster. Over the years, I owned BMW's, a 350Z and even a 987 BS, but none compare to the fun of driving my 2013 Boxster S manual. Where I live (in a snowbelt area), sports cars are stored each winter and taken out for about 5 months of summer and fall driving. It's like getting a new car each spring when the BS comes out of storage. Unless raining, the moderate summers allow for top-down driving daily. The BS has such great handling, that even trips to the supermarket are a joy. Fortunately, I am close to rural secondary roads and those with curves and hills provide great fun even at moderate speeds. I am glad to have bought the car when I did, as lately Caymans and Boxster's seem to be scarce - especially those with manual transmissions. Of course, if one has $100K to spend there are 911's, but the affordable 981's are not plentiful.
