So, as a person who took German for 2 years in Germany, and forgot most of it. One of the things I remember is german words are simple, in the sense of, for example. There is no word for glove, it is hand shoe, but it concatenated. So it is literally written as handshoe.

If you take the german phrase Jeff provided and work it a little breaking the literal words out of the phrases, you get a little better translation you can work with:

Entfall der Versande einrichtung Werks ab holung

is now

Elimination of sendings device works from recovery

Now you can play with it a bit more, so again I know hand and shoe mean two different things, but place the words together and that is glove.

If we put the phrase back together a little:

Entfall der Versande einrichtung Werksabholung

is now

Elimination of sendings device Factory collection

So I still take that is removing things that are used for shipping, it is a factory collected "Picked up" car.

Of course this is all my opinion and I may be wrong!

Good stuff, but the 968 did have an option code, 900, for Tourist delivery. I have a few North American 968 coupes and cabs with the 900 code.

I think that was a different option, as you said, don't you get more with that, like like you go to he factory, get a tour, drive it around on the track and on the autobahn, then they ship it to your dealer in the US?

I would think that was aimed at different folks no? Not a German living in Stuttgart I see the value of just going to the factory to get the car if you are near and not dealing with a dealer.

Looks like Porsche may have used these code for a while:

This is for a 911 it says 900 is tourist delivery and 337 Removal of transportation equip (model years 1992 on)
and

http://members.rennlist.com/vilhuer/options.pdf

Similar 911 link

https://www.porscheclubgb.com/PCGB/m...s.pdf?ext=.pdf

I still read the line "Elimination of sending devices" as removal of shipping equipment.

I know the 944 had this: http://rennbay.com/944-rear-tow-hook.html Well brackets that were used to tie down the car.

I know my Cayenne had a battery cut off switch, to be removed by the dealer.

So not sure what the 968 had, but I am guessing during the final build, there were things done to the car, that were not done, since it would be literally driven off the factory exit ramp!

This may not be a thing here, as it is illegal for a manufacture to sell direct to public, look at all the hassle Tesla gets. But not sure in europe if that is the case. Does Ford do an American Delivery program?

Well, to add more to this discussion I reviewed the North American 968 registry databases and found that 9 coupes and 2 cabs had option code 337. And you know one of them! The 1993 Riviera blue 968 cab in the Porsche museum is one of the two 337 cabs!

I wonder if these were cars destined for the USA, but never made it?

Jeff,

In your picture, there is an "*" next to the 337. Can you find where the asterisk is and if it says anything useful?

Both cabs were 93s
2 coupes were 93s, 2 94s, 5 95s.
2 of the 95 coupes were 718 (reVINed) cars

Hi,

Did any of you find out the mystery of code 337?

We just bought an SY CS no sunroof, M030, LSD 1993 German delivered car that has this code aswell.

Peder, did you give up?

It also have 09971 which seems to be some kind of option for the interior going through the exclusive department but we have no clue what was actually done?

/P

Post Code 337 = OHNE TRANSPORTSICHERUNGEN

Looking at some german site like elferclassic it's:
337 = OHNE TRANSPORTSICHERUNGEN.
This cars was not transferred or transported by truck or ship as it did not have any security device for / during transportation. Typically this could be some plastic that was placed between the suspension / shocks to avoid or reduce the car bouncing on the truck or trailer.
Cars with this option code were used by "Werksangehoerigen" like Sales team reps for some time before sold. Or the car was pickup up by the buyer directly at the factory.
