So this appears to remain as the factory made it, as far as we can tell?

Thanks Jason.

Does your car have the black piping around the intercooler vent in the hood as well? It looks similar to the material used to trim the lower body molding.

No sir, my car doesn't have that piping.

Jason, what is the extra fluid reservoir beside the BMC? The brake reservoir still appears to have the blue hose for the clutch. Touareg questioned the extra tank in the rear but I doubt it is fuel - radiator misting device? I really have no clue - just a wild guess. I'm told some Firehawks supposedly had those?

I find it interesting that even though they had MAF technology in '92 they chose the air flow meter for the turbo. I suppose using the 944 turbo stuff was easier and more cost effective than developing a stand alone air mass program for 20 turbocharged cars. Very nice piece.

They had to dig deep to slow the cars down. Porsche also had 16 valve heads on 968's which weren't used.

There is what looks like a pump and some sort of filter in there.

Sobek sticker is on there and they make fuel, air, oil pumps, etc for racing.

The extra fluid reservoir next to the BMC is really just an additional fluid reservoir that is tied into the one that we commonly see. These cars utilized the same race ABS system as the Cup Cars of the day so I'm sure that has something to do with it. It's positioned differently on my car. Porsche was having to ballast the cars to meet spec so by the time they got to the last car they had Matter expand the cage including into the engine compartment.

The extra tank in the rear I have no idea. That certainly doesn't look like something Porsche would have done IMHO...it's not present on my car.

Tank in the rear appears to be water/meth injection. There's a control for it:

Also looks like there might be an injector for it right behind the throttle body? Or is that a thermocouple?

Looks like the water pump is for spraying the IC, and not water injection:

http://www.pistonheads.com/features/...h-heroes/34908

The fourth car and one you see here is one of the two originally converted from S spec, the only one built to be road legal and also the most powerful by far. Numbers vary but it's safe to assume this car is packing well over 400hp, modifications requested by the original South African buyer including a manually operated water spray to cool the intercooler, additional bonnet venting, a larger rear wing and a wind deflector to shield the wipers as well as improve airflow over the front of the car. Interestingly these and other aero parts were originally developed in collaboration with Porsche tuner TechArt before being formally homologated for street use. In a corner of Gmund's office is a pile of bubble-wrapped additional aero parts to be sold with the car and supplied to the original owner to adjust downforce according to requirements. To reduce weight further the pop-up lights were also removed (and kept) with the driving lamps converted into proper headlights. Further evidence, were it required, that this is a racing car first and road car second.

I love the cruise control 'overboost', might have to replicate that.
