"i buy a 968 but, i'm worried about it's value at resale if i improve the Transmission 1200%."

come on man. they're so cheap, if you get 3 years out of 'em you got your money's worth and more.
and there's no way a modified to manual car will EVER sell for less than the same car with a ___damned Tiptronic. why on earth would anyone drive a tip when they can the same car they already love and do a conversion for a few grand, and drive the best damn 968 money can buy short of a Turbo or V8?

"Hey can i order that nice manual car you gut there for sale with a Tiptronic instead?"

mother, Mary and Joseph.

I am looking for a manual and it could be a coupe or a convertible. Preferably one with low mileage--of course! I want one that has been well-maintained. I don't have the ability to deal with a fixer-upper. Want the 4 cylinder model rather than the V8. (My favorite color is the black/black option.)

Default Pricing info on the 968s

I am finding pricing for the 968 to be all over the map. How relevant, for example, is Kelley's valuation of these cars? I am finding the same kind of cars for sale at $14k and at $26k.... Can somebody 'splain?

Not at all. You need to factor in condition, history, and configuration. All of these could add significant value to a 968. The will range from $8k to $50k depending on the car.

Good news for you, black/black is the most popular coupe combo with 317 produced. There are plenty of 1 of 1 968s. Even in black. Only 1 black coupe was made with a light grey/classic grey interior and 1 with a chesnut brown interior.

$50k?! Time to adjust the agreed value policy.

Also, SY paint adds 30hp and commands a significant premium.

Had to look that up, Vendetta. Speed yellow? I see there are emotional considerations going on here...

For example, I am going to test drive a 1995 black/tan coupe today with 38k miles on it. Asking price is $27,500, Kelley's is $12,500. Why the enormous discrepancy? That's a pretty big range for bargaining...

Gut check tells me that $27.5k is a bit spendy, but that's sight unseen. To get me to that number comfortably, it'd have to be a reference example, cream puff condition, bone stock, full records, zero paintwork, recent big ticket maintenance performed, and preferably an original owner vehicle.

If it was a driver 95 with 100k miles on it then $13K sounds right.

A 38k nice original with proper documentation and sorting would be $25k easy. You are getting into a collectible vehicle at that point and that requires a premium.
