Intro New 968 Owner in San Diego
I've been enjoying this forum for a few months since I bought my 968 on March 31. Such a wealth of information and I love the spirit of all the 968 enthusiasts. I thought I'd share some photos that I took yesterday and some information about this wonderful car that I am loving so much. I bought it with 98K.
I liked this car and bought it for a few reasons:
An upgrade I plan to do soon is rear suspension. I'm researching this. Looking at the M030 shocks and springs or a coilover set up. The front feels much stiffer than the rear when I push the car through twisties so this definitely needs to be addresses. Would love some advice on this. The M030 shocks and springs route seems the best choice since that's basically what I think I have already with the M030 sway bars and front Koni Sport struts and H&R springs.
I would like to do an autocross soon after I get the rear suspension dialed in.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to read all this, I'm excited about this new addition! In the past I've had an '88 944 Turbo S and '02 996 Coupe with full ROW M030 suspension and other factory performance upgrades. I always wanted a 968 Coupe, so glad to have it. I also have an '11 M3 Sedan Competition package, Interlagos blue that I adore.
I'm not a photographer which will be obvious when you see the photos but I thought I would include them anyway.
Here is the profile that Jeff Coe sent to me:

· Comments: Your 968 is a true 1994 model year car built in October of 1993 It has the mid-year model changes which include the 993-style seats and the lack of engine bay trim.
I liked this car and bought it for a few reasons:
- It already had a lot of desirable upgrades that I likely would have done myself.
- I wanted a unique color, 17" factory wheels, 6 sp manual and coupe.
- It was well cared for and the owner (since 2003) had all records and books.
- Had only one minor bump in its life on the pass-side front fender.
- Had quality re-spray of front bumper, hood (due to normal road chips) and pass-side front fender.
- Never smoked in.
- Everything worked except for cruise control.
- Seller stated it was set up to be a performance street car and he never tracked it.
- Autocheck report and inspection made it clear it was in very good condition.
- Major service including new clutch, all belts, filters, fluids, plugs and battery.
- I had the front seats re-upholstered. They were in really pretty good shape for being 21 years old but now they look and feel sensational, huge upgrade.
- New Lloyd's floor mats, inc. rear cargo.
- New tires. Tires on the car when I bought had good tread remaining but were 10 years old.
- Lots of iinterior and exterior detailing, tightening of trim screws to get rid of rattles.
- Little things like new Porsche key fob and deleted rear wiper.
- Promax Software
- Modified Airbox
- RS Barn Cat-back Exhaust
- M030 sway bars, front and rear
- KLA strut tie bar
- GT Torsen LSD
- Euro-spec front turn/marker lights
- 996 shifter
- Factory wheels powder coated black
- SS brake lines
- Slotted brake rotors
- Koni Sport adjustable struts w/ H&R springs, rear Bilsteins shocks upgrade.
- Porsche Motorsports front splitter

Race Car
Nice car and work on it so far. 968 m030 rear shocks and springs are one of the best upgrades to a standard 968 IMO. The only major downside is that you'll need to re-index the rear torsion bars to bring the ride height back down to normal. It's a big job but the result in handling is worth it.

Thank you PorscheG96, I'm glad to hear that because the coilover options are so expenisive and may be overkill for me since this is really a street car. And I need to do it soon too, the rear is pretty soft relative to the front.

Welcome!
Love the color, nice mods!
You might want to read up on this: http://www.wendler.info/Projekt_951/...airboxmods.pdf
Talks about the airbox mods, looks like your holes could be bigger and get you a bit more air!

Thanks for that article on the airbox mod Touareg. It sounds like I should remove the snorkel piece that goes into the airbox too. It seems like having that snorkel in place would direct cooler air from outside directly into the system though. The article barely mentions removing the snorkel though so I'm unsure.

Pluckedchicken in Irvine, yes, planning to start going to events. I think Cars & Coffee was shut down in Irvine, I went to that a couple of times years ago. Always looking for Porsche and BMW events to attend in SoCal.

I have mine set up exactly like the article, larger holes, K&N, no snorkel, and the front beauty cover.
I found it interesting when I remove the front snorkel, the car was quieter on acceleration.
