We need a 1994 968 automatic torque tube to rebuild for an overseas customer.

Just curious...why won't a 944 automatic torque tube work? Isn't the same length...flex plate...yada, yada

Hi Tom,

The main difference is the 968 torque tubes (TTs) are shorter than the 944 TTs.

Also on the five speeds, the transmission attachment points between the two are the same, but the shape of the aluminum housing is a bit different. We assume this will be the same for the automatics.

The drive shafts will also be different given the length differences without even worrying about the front attachment points.

We have found it is better to replace a TT with the same version if we don't rebuild the customer's own TT.

The only ones we don't replace with same (or rebuild for that matter) are the 944 and 968 split TTs due to their inherit problems stemming from the split. Those we replace with non-split TTs.
