Quest for 2900 lbs

The biggest issue with a smaller battery is the fact that our cars' fans run for up to 10 minutes after turning off the engine, and they draw a whopping 12 amps. So if you end up running a lot of short errands, you can run down a small battery pretty quickly. But the Voltphreaks battery you cited seems to have pleny of reserve, so you should be OK. Plus all that weight out of your wallet has got to be worth something!

Sorry I missed this. Will post pictures tonight but quick update on this project...
Removed the tiptronic transmission fluid cooler from the front bumper weighing 4.5 lbs as well as the tiptronic wiring harness and an old alpine 6 disc changer weighing 6 lbs combined for 10.5 additional lbs of savings. Also weighed the spare, jack, and tool case which are 33.5 lbs combined so removing those all brings the weight down to 2915. A lightweight battery would bring this porker down to 28xx which sounds very nice!
While I was in there I've also installed solid sway bar bushings front and rear, KLA reinforcement brackets as well as KW V3 double adjustable shocks. Reviews to follow.

I coud probably pull off a first rate CF hood production run (I know a guy, or two) but the cost for a bolt on, no appologies, Porsche quality piece would require a purchase price of $1.5-2k for a run of 10. Deposits?

I have a used fiberglass hood I bought from a guy on 968.net. No idea as to the manufacturer, but the fit is actually surprisingly decent - not perfect, but more than passable for a mostly-track car. It's definitely lighter than the steel one, but still not a featherweight, as it's fairly thick. I think I save about 10 lb.
But even with this modest weight savings, I eliminated the hood struts, as I'm afraid they're "too strong" for the lighter hood. But the hinges are fairly heavy, steel units, so there's some weight saving opportunity there, and I've heard fifth-hand rumors that somebody somewhere made up a set of aluminum hinges, I think for a 944. Were you (PorscheG96) planning to use/create some sort of lightweight hinges to go with your CF hood?

I've been in contact with GT Racing about building a high-quality composite hood.
despite that people have reported less-than-perfect fitment on their racing parts,
we discussed this topic,
and I was assured he can make a high-quality composite hood for about $1,100.
so, I'm considering to have a one made and install it.
lose the passenger side airbag and change to a CS wheel (and remove the airbag light from the instrument panel).
you can do a D9 seat delete and mothball the oem seats.
the D9 delete molding/carpet isn't the exact same black color as our carpets, so....
don't run the spare tire. lose jack, t-iron and air pump. the 20-year-old spare tire is dangerous to drive anyway.
fantastic car.

Cloud9, I wasn't planning to make lightweight hinges, just the top skin with reinforcements similar to the factory beams and threads for the factory steel hinges, hood shocks, latch and possibly underhood lamp at the front.
Here are some pics of the new suspension hardware and exhaust. I kept the m030 springs and started out with spring preload, compression and rebound settings that are the same as my m030 shocks were, except these have the high speed valving and don't require shock + spring removal to make damper adjustments!! I liked that the lower shock bolt that comes with KW V3 was grade 10.9 instead of grade 8.8 like the original one.
I'm gonna start making copies of this exhaust setup this year also except much cleaner with the piping and thinner wall / lighter weight stainless steel! It's the best sounding 968 exhaust I've heard in 12 years and will save 25 lbs.

My race 968 was between 2680 and 2700 lbs wet with <1/4 tank of fuel and no driver. I could have gotten another 100-150 lbs out of the car so that shows what is possible.

So it looks like my last post stated a curb weight of 2915. I was an idiot and realized that I'd always autocrossed with the sunroof so I've stopped doing that and weighed it - 22 lbs! Autocross weight is 2893 with 1/8 tank of fuel and I installed a 3 pound Battery Tender lithium iron phosphate battery today which saves 32.5 lbs which means that my 968's autocross weight tomorrow should be 2860 - wow!! Here are some pictures and startup video from earlier today:

Another member also says that the rear seat backs weigh 23.4 lbs and I never use those, so 2837 race weight sounds pretty good!! Otherwise the car still has full interior, metal body panels, headlights, engine accessories, etc.

Anyone ever cut out the spare tire well and replace with a plate? Does that act as crash protection? Is there any weight to be saved there?
Just a thought.
For your battery, do you expect that one to be OK with the 10 min fan runs?
I have the same goal, keep the car streetable, and fully reversible to stock for the most part.
Only permanent mods I have are the 5 point harness anchor points drilled into the body.
I only want to the big worthwhile ones, not the small 3lbs saving here and there if they remove a major feature of the car. I was surprised how little weight is saved removing the power windows.
The motors way a few lbs each, thought I read about 5lbs total saved.
Anyways. I did remove the speakers out of the door, some of them were blown, so I am just using the back ones which is fine for me.
Wonder if these will save any weight, doubt it though.

There were battery box holders I saw somewhere but cant find now, how well do you think your battery will stay in for DE/Auto X events?

A friend and I did 10 autocross runs yesterday, about 15 starts total, and cranking power was perfect every time. Of course I'll need to continue testing the battery to see if there are any problems but so far it's been perfect. Also, I did end up removing the rear seat backs and they were 20 lbs, total.

After replacing my fuel lines, getting my injectors cleaned and balance, and other fuel related maintenance, I think I will do the battery next.
How much does that battery weigh?
They don't say on their site. http://batterytender.com/products/ba...-eq-26-35.html I assume this is the one you got?
