Default Track Wheels and Tires

I have an opportunity to buy these wheels and tires for a very, very reasonable price.....I hope to track the car next year, but thinking maybe 1-2 events max.

I understand that is common practice (or what I have heard) to run the same width wheel front and rear....all four wheels are 17x8.5 ET50, the tires are 245/40-17 front and 275/40-17 rear, Hoosier A6's.

What think you? I am flat out of money after all of these recent procurements plus a new roof on my rental unit.....but these are $250.

If they were staggered, I would get them for sure so I could put them on my 968 with street tires after refinishing them.....

If you have stock front struts, they may not fit. (Rubs against the strut or spring). But not sure.

Ask the guy if you can test fit them. Also those tires are used, ask how many heat cycles and look at the date stamp.

Edit: If they are Hoosier A6's, the tires are likely worthless. The A6 is the autocross compound and is softer, or a lower working temperature, I forget. But the A6's degrade much quicker because of that.

Take care,

I passed on them. The OD of the front tires were 1" smaller as compared to the rear tires. The front tires were smaller than stock, the rears larger (OD), therefore, the car would of been nosed down in the front and *** up in the rear.

Paul, the tires wouldn't have been worth it for you. Do a few events on the street tires and see how you like it -- you'll find the car's limit sooner and easier, and in the long run, that's more fun.

I ran four 8x16" 968 wheels as my track wheels, with 245/45R16 R888s or RA1s. In my opinion, this is the ideal set-up: relatively cheap, very light, and you can (and should) run every tire at every corner of the car to balance wear. I recently pulled a set off that had had over 70 heat cycles at Mosport and the Glen, and they still weren't corded.
