Sunday morning dawned cold and rainy. GTS went out for practice at 8:40 to pretty stead showers. I was driving the #168 WeedMan Porsche 968 on Hoosiers H2O's but the track had it's typical slick spots on line and all the grip is on the totally off-line areas. I was the fastest car of all the race groups not just GTS. But then most don't bring their A game to warm-up. Next was qualifing with similar track conditions. We only got a couple of laps when a car struck the inside wall on the back straight and the session ended after 10 minutes. I had fast time and would start the race on the GTS pole. Our race was scheduled for 3:30 and rain was off and on but mostly off. Temps were in the high 50's so the track was drying Oh so slowly! In the final few hours leading up to the race it was tough to decide whether to go with dry tires or wets. Finally it dryed enough that I made the decision to go out on Hoosier R-6's while others chose to go our on wets. It was pretty slick but there were definate drying areas on the track. The green dropped and I got a good start and went into T-7 on the inside with a GTS-3 car on my outside. I was able to pull away but constantly thinking the fast cars were coming for me at any time! After about 10 minutes it started to rain and the track was nearly full wet. About this time a 944s2 crashed hard into the outside wall after the keyhole. This brought out a double yellow and the field was now on my tail. All my work just evaporated!!! As the pace car went into the pits I got a great restart and pulled a decent lead again. Then we got some more rain, then dry, then rain then dry...well you get the point. l kept pushing as hard as i dared and was able to be the first one to the checker. This was my first overall win in the GTS group and I was thrilled with the win!!!
